How to avoid one of the main companions of old age
Scientists have proved that the syndrome of senile asthenia is not always associated with advanced age and can be avoided. Simply put, this is a senile weakness, accompanied by a decrease in physical and functional activity.
The results of a large-scale medical study published in the journal JAMA Network Open. Australian scientists analyzed this phenomenon among 120 thousand people over the age of 60 years living in 28 countries. It is believed that senile asthenia is accompanied by low physical activity, lack of energy, slow walking speed, weight loss.
Scientists say that with an increase in life expectancy throughout the world, geriatric problems will become increasingly relevant. And asthenia inevitably reduces the quality of life and is a risk factor for disability. At the same time, this syndrome remains one of the poorly studied. Chronic diseases, such as diabetes or depression, increase the risk of it. Women suffer from this syndrome more often.
The simplest ways to avoid senile asthenia are strength training and protein supplements, scientists say. Moreover, if the symptoms of this disease are already noticeable, it can still be reversed with a competent medical approach.
