questions for speechies!

Heyo, so I haven’t been able to go to more than three competitions this year and only one was in poetry--and of course when you’re absent for most of a season, everything changes on you. If you do poetry and have a minute, can you evaluate some intro strategies /give any tips for a Mississippi baby interper?

When it comes to the hook: 1. Start with quote? {ex: “as [nationality] [noun] [name] once said, ‘___’.”} 2. Start with statistics? {ex: “according to [association], [ratio] [verb] [experience]”} 3. Start with a personal anecdote? {I HAVE SEEN WARNINGS AGAINST THIS, but I’m unsure if it’s because other competitors find it distasteful or judges do as well. I’m a bitch desperate to place before I graduate, yo.}

When it comes to programs with many works: 1. List all authors and titles? {I’ve done this in the past, but I have a bad habit of throwing together works from different authors. Not a bad thing if they’re SHORT titles, but I always manage to find the super long ones... “Hey Allen Ginsberg, Where Have You Gone and What Would You Think of My Drugs?” does not commonly fit on the board when you’re trying to space conservatively.} 2. Using a ‘program title’/”Various Authors” on the board, and claiming it that way within the intro? {I've seen this and 3 done before, but I’m unsure of which one properly follows NSDA regulations.} 3. confession bear: you can tell i’ve been reading forensics posts and angsting over how badly i sucked in public forum last weekend and i??? HAD a program for poetry but it doesn’t flow the way it needs to and i want to have a piece that will turn heads and make my senior year worthwhile because poetry interp is like...... the one thing i had going for me last year in school.

i do not need a nohrian scum t shirt. i am a strong individual with a strong will who will not purchase a nohrian scum t shirt. i have some semblance of an image and while this normally would not infringe on it, god damn it this is my senior year and if there is one good choice i make this year let it be that i won’t buy a nohrian scum t shirt.

... at least not for the start of school.
