I’m looking for sensitivity reading work. Being blind, I take authors portraying characters who are blind or visually impaired very seriously. I can’t count how many books I’ve read as a pre-teen, teen and young adult where the character who happened to be blind was written poorly or the condition they had wasn’t portrayed correctly. Unfortunately, I’ve had personal experience with glaucoma and retina detachment bc I was born early. As a result, I endured multiple eye surgeries and procedures that left me with medical PTSD. Even though I’ve come a long way in my healing journey, I can offer experience and prospective to an author writing that form of PTSD so they portray it accurately. The same goes for childhood and intergenerational trauma. The only condition I have for books is that they don’t have access swearing in them-especially not the “f” word at all, since that’s a trigger for me due to being verbally abused as a child.
