Our Pro Sensorist feature with multiple gateways in a master / slave relationship is normally use in situation where coverage of an area that is larger than one gateway can provide (or for added redundancy). In these situation one or more slaves are paired with a gateway designated as master, and all sensors will then be able to seamless switch to any gateway that is reachable. This feature make it easy to cover larger areas, but master / slave mode can be used in other interesting cases.
One case is in transport. Imaging a situation where a chain of sandwich shops has a central kitchen preparing a lot of the produce that are used at the other locations. In this case it’s important to monitor the cold-chain when transporting prepared food to the rest of the branches.
In this case it’s done with a master / slave setup where the master gateway are placed in the main kitchen, and gateways, paired as slave, are placed at each branch. Each location has multiple sensors in fridges, freezers and display counters and everything are monitored centrally from my.sensorist.com. Now a sensor are added to every cooling truck that moves products from the central kitchen to the local outlets.
The sensor in each of the cooling trucks reports the temperature when parked nearby the central kitchen where the goods are loaded. When the trucks starts their rounds to the other branches, then the sensor in truck will loose the connection the master gateway in the central kitchen, but as our sensor has an internal measurement buffer, the measurement will be store in the sensor.
When a truck reaches branches and the driver starts unloading the prepared food, then the sensor in the car will detect that it’s nearby a slave gateway, and will start sending all buffered measurements.
This means that the central kitchen will be able to see data records from the truck while it was on the way from the central location to the local branch, and see this while the truck is at the local branch. In case this was done without a master / slave and with the gateway only at the central location, the data wouldn’t get uploaded from the sensor in truck, before end-of-day when the truck returned to the central kitchen.
