Veggie Print Notebook Workshop for Centre 151 Open Day & SenseScapes x London Design Festival - workshop facilitator

Using collected veg scraps and cardboard food packaging as creative sensory play, participants would print the veg shapes and textures onto the covers and then use a simple bookbinding stitch to create a mini upcycled notebook. All veg, string and paper waste was kept and taken back to my garden compost so that with time, it will turn back into soil and be used to plant veggies in my garden.

I facilitated the workshop at Centre 151 Open Day which was to shared Vietnamese culture through food, performances and workshops for East & South East Asian Heritage Month and SenseScapes by MA Curating Contemporary Design at Kingston University for London Design Festival - a group exhibition and public programme that treats memory, care, and solidarity as perceptual capacities by showcasing creative practice as sensorium and archive.

On the second week of the Unit X CMM/Interior design project, I’ve attend the Makey Makey workshop which involves an sense of TOUCH, which I’m gratified to go and learn how the particular objects works to inspire me to produce unique ideas for my brief. And also to take the knowledge of the whole  invention of the Makey Makey and how the object creates sensory of the touch to my group, so it could inspire the group including me to come up with new ideas and development for our part in the RNCM event, etc. I’ve follow the demonstration on how the kit is used to take the objects that you can find and turn the objects into  input devices, by taking the object and attach them to the alligator clip to connect the object to the common small keyboard. From there you can connect the small common keyboard to the PC by plug the USB wire from the keyboard onto the PC. Then the invention kit had to be switched on to allow the PC to notify the Makey Makey system, to set in motion for the objects to be able to touch the object to click or scroll anything on the PC. The Makey Makey instructions will be taught by Ben Lycett, and with the help of Ben I can create any object or model to produce an interesting device to interact onto the Makey Makey through the PC. And the model that I create is what I call a ‘Zombie possessed Smurf’, which you can see at the bottom of the two image above and I used the model for click buttion and it works well according to Ben. For the fun part of the session, we began to test the object by go on the website: www.makeymakey.com/howto and play the games on the website by using the object to click, press space, clicking the arrows of up, down, left, and right.
