As of this timezone focused post, Tsukihime is officially 25 years old! I dont know if I can write up a good post about this work and the many gut wrenches it pulled (partially cos my memory of reading the Far Side routes is incredibly murky on account of IRL stuff) but this work really changed my life. From falling in love with Arcueid, the shock of the 17 pieces, the spear to my heart that were the Ciel route's rumination on redemption and everything Satsuki, the Tohno family drama, the Dead Apostle lore, it means far too much to properly say.

Thank you Nasu Kinoko for writing one of my favourite stories of all time.

Thank you Takeuchi Takashi for bringing it to life with beautiful sprites and CG's, as well as for believing in Nasu's vision to the extent you did.

Thank you Haga Keita a.k.a. KATE for those 10 songs.

For some reason I always get wistful whenever I see art or screenshots of unicorn Twilight. Probably because I was a fan of the show since before Twilight became a princess and it’s just super nostalgic to me to see where it all started. I miss unicorn Twilight

I am gonna be a fucking wreck on Oscar day. I'm seriously sitting here right now at my desk gettin all teary eyed just over the nominee lunch, seeing video of Luca walking up on stage, Timmy in his green Gucci, Timmy loving every minute.... I swear I love these people so much and am so filled with pride and joy for them!!!! Peaches forever 🍑

Ah, The Spleen. 😂 I got this in today for the Pee Wee/Paul Reubens shrine but unfortunately I'm gonna have to do some rearranging to make him fit. Or at least rotate him in and something else out for a bit at some point. For now, he has a nice home on my shelf with some of my kpop albums.

Every since my parents took me to the theater to see this, not once but twice back in what 1999(?) 2000(?) I've always wanted the entire line of Mystery Men figures. Looking back, I can understand why some might say the movie was an acquired taste but I loved it back then and still enjoyed it a lot when I watched it a few years ago. I still really like the aesthetics and fuccccck I always wanted a piece of a young Ben Stiller as Mr. Furious...and Paul despite the musty but so well played character gimmick...and Kel. 🤭

When I took The Spleen out of the small box he was shipped in today, I couldn't help but laugh. You're lying if you can't call Paul a phenomenal actor. He killed it every time, even as Lock from Nightmare Before Christmas. The Spleen (I think) was the main reason my parents wanted to take me to see the movie as a little girl...must have seen Pee Wee on the previews and knowing how much I loved him from the start of my cognitive existence, surprised (and embarrassed) me. Also my dad and I both were/are big Kel Mitchell fans too, and were at the time as well.

I had the opportunity once to go and meet Paul at a nearby Fanboy Expo and my dad wanted to take me to the event to meet him, but he couldn't get it arranged to go ahead of time with his siblings and their shared duties in caring for my special needs uncle. Plus he never ever would reserve tickets ahead of time even if you explained how important that was to do until you were blue in the face. I still wish we would have made it and hate and regret that it won't be in this lifetime. Maybe in the next one we will finally cross paths. But until then...

Pee-Wee Forever!

so many posts on this site about soup and how it is warm and delicious and representative of love and i was thinking about that when i made myself a bowl of the last bit of tomato soup we had in the house

and then my sister called in from the living room that she wanted some tomato soup but it was all already in my bowl, i decided to just give it to her bc why not, its just soup, bummer that i dont get to eat the thing that is so warm and full of love

but then i realized. yeah i didnt get to have it myself but i did get to feel it. my little sister said she wanted tomato soup and i was able to give her some, simple as handing her a bowl that i thought would be mine . i could have just eaten the soup and she could have fixed herself something else. but even though only one of us ate it i felt connected to her through that soup. happy new year i think 2023 is going to be nice

every now and then i go back and check the only text message i’ve ever received from my papa (and by extension nana). it’s a silly text lol but this is one of the last interactions i ever had with him as he passed away about 8 months after (nana would be a year and 2 months). to be honest, i harbored a lot of guilt for not talking to them more but all i can do is forgive myself. hope theyre resting easy

This Week Tho!

It’s kind of awesome.

Going abroad makes you really consider what other people think about your country, you know? We absorb so much of our own nation--and America is such a BIG country that it seeps into every other nation on the planet--that we have no idea what other people think of us.

So last week, I was pretty pissed off and ashamed that I was American: Because I live in a country where politicians regularly prioritize the right to shoot someone with a handgun over the right to fund public schools; because nine people got shot in a church because they were black.

And then you know what happened this week? We started talking about racism! We’re taking down Confederate flags (WHICH IS SOMETHING THAT’S BOTHERED ME FOR YEARS)!! And then the Supreme Court made sure that people wouldn’t lose healthcare and now we have marriage equality, and on Friday night I got to listen to Hilary Clinton talk about all the great things she wants to do when she’s in office: like how she wants to keep fighting against racism and gun violence and how she wants to protect women’s rights and increase the protections and rights of LGBT Americans. That was insanely cool.

So, yeah, our country is kind of screwed up. But so is everyone else’s. This week, I’m way prouder to be American.
