InI love seeing Bang Won being tender with his kid. It’s such a small, seemingly throwaway scene, but it gives him humanity - this drama uses its sparse running time very efficiently. (Not to mention it’s literally the only OK father-son relationship we’ve seen in this drama, if we don’t count “almost two decades ago, my dad was sentenced to be boiled alive but before that he was an A+ dad” Hwi has going.)

Jang Hyuk continues to thoroughly and professionally steal the drama. But then he’s been doing sageuks when the main trio were still in elementary school. This scene! Shivers! (I wonder how and if the dynamic is going to change when Hwi switches his loyalty to Bang Won for real.)

I laughed at this! Even a gisaeng house madam (however smart she is, the king and his high court are supposed to be more politically savvy) realizes this as a fact, but the King and his greedy idiot ministers do not!

In non Bang Won news, perhaps it would be more convincing that you can shoot her, if she didn’t see her ribbon hanging from your bow. It’s pretty symbolic, imo - Hwi cannot let go of his humanity no matter how he tries. When his hand starts shaking on the bowstring...
