à la carte
"Excuse me ma'am, can you hold this for me?" He slides the box to the woman across the counter, a nice gold ring tucked away inside. It was just one of the many gifts he was planning on buying for his sister. She was graduating from flight school next week and he wanted to get her something nice. He'd gotten off from work early so he could miss her, she always came when his shift ended and he would walk her home but he left that for one of his coworkers to do, and he was glad. The guy had always had a crush on his sister anyway so it was like he was doing him a favor.
He walked around the store staring at the different jewelry and handbags they had so neatly displayed. Out of curiosity he checked the price tag on an especially pretty pure, it was coral color with gold accents and he let out a sound similar that one would make if they were to get punched square in the stomach. "Three hundred fifty dollars?" he whispered to himself sticking the tag back in and patting the bag. "That's fucking ridiculous." He loved his sister dearly, and wanted her to have the nicest of things but he just was unable to but her something that expensive.
His gaze drifted around again noticing a clothing section. Maybe things would be cheaper there, he mused thoughtfully as he strolled over.
