I got Syndrom vibe from reading that one fanfic with Zenos and Emet-Selch
=======================================================
How do you preserve history? Emet-Selch knows most would say it would be through preservation: writing down events, caring for artifacts, capturing moments in painting and picture. But there are far more lasting ways to preserve history.
Change is most easily wrought through a new generation, and within his three great-great-grandchildren, Emet-Selch sees the chance to not let his past be forgotten, his history lost to time. When they are too young to even stand on their own, he treasures them as any elder of a family would; enjoying these moments since he know that even for a being as old as he, they pass in the blink of an eye. He enjoys bouncing babes on his knees and taking them off your hands.
After all, it makes him so much more trustworthy for when they are older, and he is able to show them magics and power that have not been seen in over millennia.
Your children are all naturally gifted, listening to their grandfather intently about the wonders and sights he has seen, watching in complete awe as he is able to fashion all of their gifts with but a thought. He spends his time nurturing their abilities from the moment they can first manipulate their aether; showing them magics he himself he had not seen in…years.
The pride he feels in these children, he could already hear Lahabrea calling him soft, can hear the scathing tones of Elidibus asking him if he had lost sight of his goal. Perhaps he is no longer as adamant as he once was, or perhaps your battle with him showed him the true heart of his ambition.
He did not want to forget.
He did not want those sacrifices, your sacrifices, to be forgotten.
And thanks to your children, they no longer will be.
