completed control, however...
despite this saying "ultimate edition", i actually just have the standard edition with no DLC, because it was part of a humble bundle and was mislabeled, i think
i have completed all the base game achievements, but i will have to rebuy the game if i want to play the DLCs, which is a shame because i've heard good things about them
control is a very well constructed and detailed game, visual/sound design is immaculate, the worldbuilding is incredible, and the characters are wonderfully awkward, i liked the metroid style progression
but i just didn't resonate (haha) with it as much as i wanted to
there were moments here and there where i was like "oh hell yeah i fuck with this", like both of the poets of the fall/old gods of asgard songs, and a couple of the major side quests, but overall i was expecting a 9/10 experience and i felt like a 6.5/10 by the end :(
not to bash on any control lovers, game just wasn't my cup of tea in some aspects
i will do anything except brickout apparently
i did make a lot of progress toward one very full combo though (despite it not being obtainable i think), unlocked the live versions of proper rhythm and waiting, unlocked malapropism, and achieved a mere *three* misses on the SWING chart!
fuck the SWING chart
unbeatable episode 2 spoilers
it was very amusing to me that the game puts you in an hour long prison section, because as someone who has played yakuza 4 and 5, this shit ain't nothing to me man
i already saw one person complaining about it and i just had to chuckle
i did REALLY love how they introduced 3 separate gameplay elements throughout (baseball, beating up cops, regular rhythm game) and then coalesced them together in the escape sequence, that was satisfying
making quaver cry should be punishable by death
the fact that there's an achievement to complete a song with the music volume set to 0 is very baffling and also very funny
it also makes the game incredibly eerie so i'm glad i only have to do it once
and with practice, that's all there is to it
first impressions of ME3 (completed priority palaven)
combat feels SO much better than ME2, like it actually feels like a modern cover shooter (rolling, vaulting is easier, you can sprint for longer and the turn radius is increased, you can use whatever weapon you want and the only downside is weight)
galaxy map exploration serves the narrative by adding a risk/reward factor (in ME2, i eventually found resource extraction to be tedious but now with the reapers watching, you need to be more deliberate with where you're going and when you pulse, and you have to be more careful with fuel)
i'm a little curious about the economy of this game, because in ME1 it was stupidly easy to get basically unlimited money, while in ME2 it was very well balanced and i was able to afford all the upgrades i needed
i like the war assets, it feels like an expansion of the loyalty stuff in ME2, where instead of individual characters having an effect on your success, in ME3, it's every little thing you do to help people out and lift their spirits that will contribute to success
i like how we're delving into shepard's personal trauma and their effort to push forward despite the heavy toll it's clearly taking on them
i am very excited to see how this trilogy ends, but that doesn't mean i'm not going to relish the experience getting there
