@serendipitous-encounters pointed out an implication Albatross holding Doc's arm instead of his collar could have and it's now stuck in my mental microwave, so I made a list with her idea and the possibilities I've thought of so far
Albatross could have felt Doc's lack of a pulse but has convinced himself Doc is alive, as she suggested
Albatross isn't thinking clearly enough to realize Doc has no pulse or is imagining a pulse
Albatross has lost feeling in that hand but is still holding onto Doc
Albatross is holding on in a way which makes feeling a pulse hard or knows Doc's pulse can be hard to detect due to really low blood pressure or something
Albatross thinks Doc's arm is injured enough to have lost a pulse or even to be disconnected from Doc but is holding on to feel less alone as he dies or because he can't let go
It's possible the change was made for dramatic effect without consideration of the implications. I'm also baffled how Albatross survived that long with so much of his body gone (how did his lungs keep working? and the blood loss?)
When we write our Poetry Mafia songs I think we should include a little bit of the Rick Roll in every one of them
Brilliant!
Lyrics, music, or both? If it were in the music, we would either have to do it in very subtle ways (choice of keys, starting note, etc.) or get legal permission, so including a few sequences of three or four words from the Rickroll lyrics might be the safest way while still affording a lot of creative freedom
When you write fics online are there certain fonts you enjoy using, or do you just use whatever the default is? :D
Do you mean fonts in my drafts or when I post? If it's the former, I usually type in the Notes app or dictate there while walking and then try to make sense of the muddle. Notes uses a font called San Francisco; there aren't options except when it comes to Title vs. Heading and italics and such, but sometimes I'll type all in Title instead of Body so it's easier to read while walking
On AO3, I've always just used the standard formatting. Which font the standard fomatting shows up as might depend on the device and/or be Lucida Sans or Lucida Grande but don't quote me on that
Have a splendiferous day, or, if not, as splendiferous a day as you can!
If Albatross were a worm… would he still be called Albatross or would he just be Worm??? Wormbatross??? 😔
Hello Taliehoffbeck! How have you been? :D
(P.S. Albaworm could definitely solo Dostoyevsky. Trust me.)
Depends on whether people know. He’d still be Albatross to Chuuya, but if Chuuya tells anyone who wasn't there for the vermification that he has Albatross in worm form at his apartment, or even lies and says he named the worm after an allegedly dead friend, they might be concerned for Chuuya’s wellbeing. Then again, Chuuya wouldn’t tell anyone he keeps a worm in his apartment unless forced to somehow, especially not Albaworm. Albaworm is to be protected at almost all costs
Hello, Serendipitousity! How have you been? I have been… well, I got briefly locked in a cemetery yesterday (1st cemetery visit since Montparnasse—I wanted to pay my respects to the actress Pascale Ogier) and it was the most interesting thing that’s happened to me this week. Last week, a near-stranger told me he’d translate Romanian poetry for me, so that might be happening (he says he’s not fluent in Romanian but is learning); my mom texted to say that ever since the night when I slept on that eerie mountain with the unidentifiable noise (which I did not tell her I was doing), she’s been having recurring dreams where I’m lying down surrounded by specters; and I at least briefly was able to get the song which had been stuck in my head a third of the time for months almost entirely out of my head (it’s trying to break in again and I am fending it off with another song which was stuck in my head months ago. We shall see whether This Charming Man can take the Trap Queen in a fight)
(I would very much like to see Albaworm solo Dostoyevsky. To my mind, there are things which would be terrible plotwise but entertaining enough to more than make up for it, and Deux ex Albaworm fits firmly in that category)
It’s pride month, Taliehoffbeck… You know what that means! ^^
(A-SPEC FLAGS HOORAY!!! Happy pride month Taliehoffbeck! Go be gay and merry in Paree 🙂↕️ /silly)
Huh
what
do you want me to make like
queer fanfiction
because if so that's sticking to our regularly scheduled programming
me telling myself I'm going to write and then barely writing anything but writing something else eventually. I am trying to work on that though
(A-SPEC FLAGS!!! Happy Pride, Serendipitousity, and a happy month in general! I took a picture of the Eiffel Tower for you and then added seven characters. They ended up so pixellated as to be almost indistinguishable but I tried)
By flags, this is surely what Pianoman meant right? 🤔
(This was funnier in my head haha)
I hope you had a very aro/ace Valentine’s Day! :D 🧡💛🤍🩵💙
Thank you! I hope you had a very aro/ace Valentine’s Day as well and have a happy Aro Week!!!
You're likely familiar with the Valentine's official art which inexplicably has Steinbeck in it even though everyone else is from the ADA or Port Mafia, but if not, I think you ought to see it, because it's mildly hilarious:
Realistically, this probably exists in a void, but it's funnier if you imagine some hapless news crew trying to photograph the saviors of Yokohama, missing a few of the most instrumental people, giving them random props, and including one of the terrorists by mistake and no one saying anything about it because at least two of the others are wanted criminals and they just want to get it over with
Hello Taliehoffbeck! I just wanted to say hi 👋 How have you been? :D
(Dw I haven’t forgotten that I promised to ask about more of your fic WIPs, I will be back soon with questions 🫡 )
Hello, Serendipitousity! How have you been? I have not been great, but that feels like an uninteresting and inadequate answer, so I shall instead give you a fragmentary BSD theory-related one and also something which cheered me up a bit
I've been reading Next by Michael Crichton, which is largely centered on human DNA technologies. It is gratingly unpleasant (I can only think of one woman under 40 in it who isn't objectified to a truly revolting extent)... but it seems like it could be pretty Stormbringer and Doc-Crichton theory relevant. I just got to a bit where a crooked physician and proponent of genetic technology who's also a Baptist lay pastor gives a speech implying that genetic experimentation is in line with divine will and perhaps even part of a "God-given assignment" as "stewards of the planet", which he doesn't actually believe. It's a little early for me to form an opinion, but just from the first part, one could easily see how Asagiri might have taken some inspiration from Next in regards to Doc and/or N, Pan, and all the unethical things they do. Not that it's necessarily the case, or as glaring as The Iceman Cometh if it is, but it would make sense
Here's some Bunal Buraiha chaos for the soul
Odasaku speaks in a Kansai dialect, which the translator on the wiki conveys using a likely ersatz American Southern/country dialect, so he's always saying things like, "Can't have 'em small fry getting all uppity!" and, "Well milk the cows and slap me silly!" but also things like, "So that peculiar ennui turned into a sheep?" Ango's quotes range from, "See, I used to look up to ninjas a lot! Even learned ninjutsu and all. I've forgotten all of it by now, though" to, "In a sense, for me, literature's also a poison." At one point, Oda tells Ango, "I always knew yer a liar" and Ango replies, "Oi, why are you treating me like I'm a liar? Didn't I say that for those who truly live in decadence, anything can be the truth?" As for Dazai...
Some of this would be funny on its own, but encountering grand delinquent Sakaguchi Ango after BSD Ango makes it that much funnier
Anyway, I hope you're doing well. As for the WIP asks, that is very nice of you, but only ask if/when you feel like it. Have as good a day as you can (hopefully a wonderful one)!
Hello Taliehoffbeck! I hope when you’re reading this you’ve landed safely in France 😅 Have fun there!!! Learn about lots of gems and visit lots of writerly places and see the Eiffel Tower for me :з
(P.S. if you see a random blond dude with a hairstyle kind of like Chuuya’s who carries around wrist thick birch sticks run okay? /silly)
Hello, Serendipitousity! I'm still waiting for my second flight... just a few more hours left now...
BSD Verlaine I'm not worried about. As for IRL Verlaine, I might see his grave when I'm there and I might not. I am planning to visit Baudelaire's two graves in the Cimetière du Montparnasse: the joint one, where his name has second billing to his beloathed stepfather's on the stone, and the grand, empty one he was given decades later because people thought it unfair that he'd been buried on his family plot against his wishes and didn't have his own stone but they couldn't move his remains. Because the first thing which comes to anyone's mind when they're going to Paris is that they ought to visit the grave of a long-dead jerk who would have hated them. Naturally.
I saw Chuuya in the wild earlier—or rather BSD volume 3, in which he's introduced. The airport bookstore had two copies of it and none of any other BSD volume, nor any empty space to indicate 1 and 2 had once been there, as if in early honor of his birthday
I hope you are having a wonderful day and that you see the Eiffel Tower yourself eventually!
