Serendipity Walk
Think outside the BOX…
My serendipity walk starts last October 8, 2015. That is one of my vacant days, not because it is Saturday but because of no worries like study for the quiz, make the project or any academic related activities due to USeP Palaro or Intramural next week. So, most of the students are practicing for intramural events. LC announces that there will be an attendance system needed for the students to comply. Actually, I didn’t comply the attendance because I’m practicing for my pitch and, for me, intramural events are optional. But, sad to say, I break my rule. I need the attendance for clearance because, without the attendance, I will receive sanctions from the LC governor and I don’t like sanctions. I also need my intramural t-shirt which is designed by LC so I really need to go. Last October 10, 2015, while having a jeepney moment, I’m observing the society like problems that can be solved with the use of the mobile application. Traffic is the first problem that I observe but I remember traffic apps are existing and trend for entrepreneurs. So take I deep breathe and continue observing the society. Until I arrive near USeP and I didn’t generate any ideas or innovation. So sad, but I continue and keep in mind that there will be a great scenario and maybe through that scenario, I might generate ideas. After I received my t-shirt, I search for my friends at the gazebo area but I couldn’t find them. So, I decided to invite my best friends and other close friends from other colleges to have malling.
G-mall is our first stop, though one of my friends needs a battery charger and CD-R king store is available at the said mall. While passing along multiple stores, we discuss our college life like the stress and much more. Until we arrive at the cd-R king, I get her a priority number and started to wait. Moment of 3 seconds, she was called and purchased the desired battery charger. Before we exit the establishment, I heard an old woman complaining about CD-R King in a low voice manner. She complains about the availability of the product because CD-R king promises that the product she desired is available last week and they will restock next week. She insists that she always inquire the product last week Friday and one of their staff promised her that the product she wants was available this week. She walkout and CD-R king staff proceed with the ordinary business activity. Because of that scenario, I realized that there must be an application that shows business product more accurate like 3D product virtual visualization each business establishments and also notifies the people about the availability of the product in real time. Also, this application caters online purchasing with reviews from previous customers about the product and services of the specific business. If this application is implemented, it helps people to save the time of going to the mall especially if their malling proceeds with special events like birthdays or wedding. I think this will not be approved by Sir Gamboa because it is common and people here in Davao are not familiar with the application. So without further a due, we proceed to the hardware store for the plug because one of my friends had a project for their major. While going to hardware, I silently think about complex ideas that would help us and the society. Then I realized one of the ideas of my techno classmate, his newest idea was approved by sir Gamboa before intramurals and he is the last one to present before our class ended, about interior design and floor planning using augmented reality. I reserve my effort tomorrow and enjoy the malling time with my close friends.
Next day, I ask my friend, the one who generated the augmented reality interior design floor planner, if he will allow me to use his application and he said, “Yes”. I’m glad because I have a backup application if I can’t generate my own application. I decided to go to USeP because of attendance and the LC posted that there will be no attendance. So, I directly go to Abreeza Mall to extend my serendipity walk. I need to generate my own idea that came from my own brain. So I decided to have a walking, eating, surveying, and window shopping at the selected stores. After 5 hours of walking, sitting and eating from different stores, I spotted a quite attractive scenario. Wherein two people are communicating in a unique manner, one is an H.I. and the other one is a normal person. My mind buffers for a while like, how did they understand each other? The normal one gets a small piece of paper and handed to H.I. with a ball pen. So, the H.I. wrote his message but, the staff didn’t understand his point and the H.I. walkout. I ask the staff if I could keep that paper for some specific purpose. The staff handed me the paper and I scan the whole sheet. It has a unique grammar and it is not easy to understand but I get his point. I take my last sip and leave the food establishment and the mall. I take a huge deep research about my soon-to-be application or idea, it takes 6 hours of researching about sign language and how should I use the smartphone to detect and translate sign language into text or speech. So I decided that my application will use the camera to detect sign language and will be translated through the special avatar. That will be for the H.I. to normal person communication. The second feature focus on H.I. to H.I. communication like American citizen uses ASL and Japanese citizen uses JSL. Both of the H.I. uses different Sign Language because of the different culture. With this application, it will detect sign language through the camera and it will be translated by the avatar. The third feature focuses on H.I. activities like listening to a movie or music. Through this application, the avatar will translate the movie and music into a sign language base on preference translation: natural language or GPS language.
Before I end this, I thank God for helping me to generate a successful idea and always reminded me to not easily give up on any scenario. I didn’t expect that I could generate with that complex idea from the real scenario. I hope in the future this application will be used by the small and medium scale businesses.
