Archie first appeared in the same month in Pep Comics (vol. 1) #22. Publisher MLJ apparently thought that he was going to be a hit that they gave him a slot in Jackpot Comics as well.
The guys at MLJ were right. Archie became a HUGE hit, and ended up taking over the company which, a few years later, changed its name to Archie Comics.
