What if Steve goes into complete utter denial bc of his grief when Bucky falls and starts putting up posters saying "Sergeant James Buchanan Barnes, wanted ALIVE (in big red letters)" or "Missing December 1944, if found please return to Steve Rogers" and sticks them absolutely everywhere like all over SHIELD and their old apartment and there's like 100 more copies in his house
he still thinks bucky is with HYDRA, that he was captured and steve couldn't get to him in time, because at least now steve still has a slither of hope, which is better than accepting that bucky was gone.
