Goodbye Dillon (A Farewell to Friday Night Lights)
Tomorrow night...it all officially ends.
5 seasons. 76 episodes. 2 networks. An incredible universe known as Dillon, Texas...and a group of characters you couldn't help but root for.
It didn't pander to its dedicated audience, and brought up issues anyone could identify with - the issues you could talk about, and the issues you were afraid to talk about.
And in the heart of this universe, there was possibly the most realistic couple in TV history - a couple that didn't get the recognition they deserved until late in the game.
Tomorrow night, it will all officially come to an end. I will mourn its loss, and mourn the fact that millions of people didn't catch on the first time. Hopefully some of them will, and keep the legacy of this great series alive. They'll get their chance when it moves to ESPN Classic soon...then there's always Netflix and the DVD's.
Thank you Peter Berg, for deciding to carry on the story past the hugely-successful film. Thank you Jason Katims and the incredible staff for delivering incredible storytelling that many series - especially those well past their prime - would give up anything to get.
And thank you to the incredible ensemble cast who delivered extraordinary performances and will never be forgotten by the fans who stayed with them from the beginning:
Thank you Zach, Jesse, Taylor, Adrianne, Scott, Gaius, Minka, Matt, Michael, Brad, Jurnee, Madison, Grey, Derek, Stacey, Grandma Louanne, Aimee, and Kyle & Connie, along with the rest of the great ensemble who would make their own memorable additions to the universe that was Dillon, Texas.
Thank you for making "Friday Night Lights" the best hour of dramatic television I've ever seen. And I'll never forget any of it.
