Reader Entitlement

Can people please understand that most writers DO NOT write for you? Many predominately write for themselves, be it fan fiction or original fiction, and share it because they like that people can enjoy what they made. Just because YOU don't like how something is written DOES NOT MEAN that it is ok to try and tell writers to not write that because it offends you or doesn't suit your particular tastes.

Seriously. I see this ALL THE TIME where the reader seems to think that they are entitled to the rights to the story they are reading, and it is thus their right to demand the author change something because they don't like it.

You know what you do when you read a story you don't like? STOP READING IT. Don't go on a tirade to the author about how their idea is wrong and how your idea about it is right and how THEY HAVE TO CHANGE IT FOR YOU. The story is not yours. It's theirs. They can write it however they want. Don't like the villan? Too bad. Don't like the pairing? Too bad. Don't like some of the tropes that were written in? Too bad. The story doesn't belong to you.

You know when it IS ok to tell the writer what to do with their story? When the story is YOURS. Quit bitching to authors about how they are not catering to your wants and needs in a story and write one your damn self.

"But I'm bad at writing/don't have the time." Practice. You think every author you have read something by came out of the womb with their exact style and experience? Fuck no. Just like drawing, writing takes time and practice. And you gotta read a lot. Develop your tone and everything else. But you know what? It's all yours. You can write your story ANY WAY YOU WANT.

So stop trying to tell writers how to write amd do it your damn self.
