The Festival of Lights had arrived at U.A. High School yet again. The students put together the festival with the teachers, and opened it to the public. People from all over Japan came to enjoy the festivities, spheres of light emerging from their bodies in a myriad of colors to join the stars above.
Hanta and Mezou, running a face painting booth together, stared at the lights overhead, Hanta wrapped in Mezou's arms. Both of them released soft pink orbs of lights, and Mezou felt like nothing could ruin their night.
He was the first to see Momo and Kyouka headed toward them, hand in hand. Hanta noticed a moment later and waved to them. Once they arrived, he greeted them with a grin.
"Hey, you two," Kyouka said, "How are you?"
"We're doing well," Mezou answered.
"I can see that," Momo commented, gesturing toward the soft pink lights above their booth. Hanta looked up and turned away with a small blush dusting his cheeks.
'It's a nice night,' Hanta signed, 'Perfect for the Festival,'
'I agree,' Momo signed back, 'Kyouka and I were wondering if you would paint our faces.'
Mezou suddenly found his arms empty as Hanta started gathering paint supplies.
'What were you thinking?' he asked
'Sugar skulls,' Momo replied, 'it is October, after all.'
Hanta's grin grew bigger and he returned to his tasks with vigor.
"You just made his night," Mezou chuckled as he guided the two girls toward two empty stools. Hanta swatted one of his boyfriend's arms. Then, he tapped his ear.
"Yes, I know you can hear me," Mezou said.
Hanta ignored him and stationed himself in front of Momo. He coated her face with a layer of white paint, then worked on the black lines. Adding little, dotted flowers scattered across her cheeks, he finished with a crown of red roses. Handing Mom the handheld mirror, he watched as her eyes lit up with glee.
"Thank you so much!" she said. He gave her a thumbs up before moving to Kyouka. Starting with the white layer and black lines, Hanta painted a purple flower crown, adding little, partially hidden music notes weaving through the crown.
Mezou handed the mirror to her, and once she noticed the music notes, she beamed at Hanta, thanking him. Momo placed some cash in the tip jar. Then, the girls got to their feet, claiming they needed to get ready for Kyouka's next performance.
"My last performance is at midnight. Make sure you two can be there."
Mezou and Hanta nodded and waved the girls goodbye. People began flooding their booth soon after, commenting on Hanta's talent, and, before they knew it, it was almost midnight.
Hanta finished painting the last customer's face as Mezou locked their tip jar away. Once they were ready, they headed toward Kyouka's show, hand in hand, matching smiles for the world to see.
"It was a great Festival this year, wasn't it?" Mezou said. Hanta nodded, moving closer toward his boyfriend.
"I love you." Mezou said softly.
"I love you, too," Hanta mouthed back. Happiness flooded their souls as they made their way to see Kyouka perform.
And, underneath the glow of the stars, the orbs of light, and the moon, it definitely was a wonderful Festival of Lights for the young couple.
As you may have figured out, Sero is mute. Also, there is not enough sero x shouji content. The Festival of Lights is a story I wrote a long time ago and I decided to use it as an AU. I hope you enjoy the story.
