#SERVEstory: Ps. Brandon Barber, Elevate People, Houston TX

Meet James,

We met James under the bridge in downtown Houston last month with one of our serve days. At a young age he lost his mother and father and turned to alcohol. Through addiction and other life circumstances it pushed him to be homeless for two years. We want to brag on James! Ever since we met him he’s been faithful to church every single week. He serves in every area possible that he can. James says, “A lot has been going on in my family, but God brought me an additional family at Elevate. Everyone here says ‘hi’ and speaks positive things to me. I love this church.”

We are thankful for stories like James, and he is just one story for the reason we bring hope & love to the streets of our city.

#SERVEday18 Story: Ps. Tim Webb, Connect Church, West Pittston PA

We are really excited about all that has happened from the Serve Day. Our church is be blessed and on fire to serve. Of the events that took place that day, the best so far was the email we got from a person reached on our Redbox outreach. We put $2.00 in a movie case and a note that the movie was on us. The receiver of this movie decided to pass it forward. 

This is the email he sent to me: “Evening pastor, hope this email finds you in good health and spirits. I just want to say thank you for your kind gesture and let you know that I've decided to pass it forward to someone else. Honestly, I feel in my heart that it's the right thing to do. I am also leaving a note explaining why. Again thank you for reminding me of a few good values”.

 The note he left for the next person read: "I rented this movie before you and I came across the money and card you see before you. I decided not to take the gift but to pass it forward because the gesture did something for me much stronger. It reminded me that even in the world we live in today, there are still good people. And that is a scientific fact that kindness reciprocates itself. Hopefully it does the same for you too. Good day and God bless.”

#SERVEday18 Story: Ps. Marc Pannell, Celebration Church, Mozambique Africa

There were many great things that we experienced here in Mozambique. Our Celebration family had an opportunity to serve at 8 locations. One of those was the local prison. Our team had been asking God to provide us an opportunity to minister in the local prison if possible. As we were praying, it opened up the door for us to serve them; we provided the prison with 40 new chairs. Upon arrival, over 400 inmates welcomed and sang to our team. We had an opportunity to preach the Gospel as well! As the team was leaving, the director handed us a piece of paper... it was inviting our church to minister the Gospel on a regular basis. 

 Here is another story. Our church had a team from America visit in June and the team prayed for a man who could not walk because of a leg injury. For Serve Day, we had a team praying for people in the community and one of our stops was at this man's house. We experienced healing as he was now walking! 

One more. This was our first year to invite our bush campuses (rural Mozambique) to be part of Serve Day. Our Helene Campus joined with the community to construct a building for the chiefs and other people in the community to use. The chief was so impacted and thankful that he plans to invite us back for a ceremony. And not just us, but the 40 - 45,000 people who live in Helene. Our hope is this will take place, we will share the Gospel, and God will get the glory. Amen!

#SERVEday18 Story: Ps. Craig Dyson, CONVO Church, Reno NV

We still haven’t launched yet. We launch Sept 23rd but felt it important to set the tone in advance. We had 40 team members show up at the Food Bank of Northern Nevada. We prepared 40,000 lbs of food boxes that will be sent to hungry families and children.   We also had other team members participate with a local human trafficking organization as they prepared a safe house for girls seeking refuge.

This is by far One of our favorite #SERVEday18 projects.

“I love to take pictures and so today with a team we chose to spend this SERVE Day shooting free portraits for the residents of Tara at Thunderbolt Senior Living. Many of them hadn't had their portrait made in 50 years.

#SERVEday18 Story: Celebration Church, Austin TX

So many incredible #SeveDay18 stories have been coming in! Here’s a single mom who was struggling with ends meet while battling cancer. She says, “Celebration has been a tremendous blessing. I haven’t been able to afford an oil change (it’s typically $100), and I was elated to hear it was going to be taken care of today.” SO AMAZING!
