Packer Serverspec remote provisioner
So lets write some integration test for our puppet code. We will use a super simple puppet manifest just deploying ntp as a hello world example focusing on test-kitchen instead.
Test Kitchen is a test harness tool to execute your configured code on one or more platforms in isolation. A driver plugin architecture is used which lets you run your code on various cloud providers and virtualization technologies such as Amazon EC2, Blue Box, CloudStack, Digital Ocean, Rackspace, OpenStack, Vagrant, Docker, LXC containers, and more. Many testing frameworks are already supported out of the box including Bats, shUnit2, RSpec, Serverspec, with others being created weekly.

Intro Software drives innovation in every aspect of our lives; as System Engineers we must not only support that software, but also scale that support by writing our own software. Oh sure, it’s got fancy names like “configuration management” or “desired-state convergence-based system administration”, but it’s code, pure and simple. In order to achieve this …
Testinfra parameterization
RSpec tests are Behavior Driven Development (BDD) tests which originate in a Ruby milieu. Although these tests were originally focussed on applications, they have become more important in DevOps for ensuring that entire fleets of infrastructure servers are correctly configured. While the original ServerSpec tests are great, they require switching mental gears to ruby idioms if you are coding in a mainly python project. Happily Testinfra allows you to write serverspec tests in python. This quick set of exmaples and links gets you off to the races in no time.

One needs to extend Excon timeouts to keep the docker-api gem from timing out waiting for long builds:
