MY PRIDE IS CHRIST JESUS SERVING IN PRAYER.
Day 101 on the Words of Jesus from the Book of Matthew . “But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and anon with joy receiveth it; “Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he falls away.” ~Matthew 13:20-21 . By David Guzik . On stony places: As seed falling on the thin soil on top of the stony places quickly springs up and then quickly withers and dies (Matthew 13:5-6), so some respond to the word with immediate enthusiasm yet soon wither away. . This soil represents those who receive the word enthusiastically, but their life is short-lived, because they are not willing to endure tribulation or persecution… because of the word. . Spurgeon made a good point: “I want you clearly to understand that the fault did not lie in the suddenness of their supposed conversion. Many sudden conversions have been among the best that have ever happened.” The problem was not their sudden growth, but their lack of depth. . “Tribulation is a general term for suffering which comes from outside; persecution is deliberately inflicted, and usually implies a religious motive. Falls away is literally ‘is tripped up’; it is not a gradual loss of interest, but a collapse under pressure.” (France) #Matthew13 #ServingJesusChrist #StonyGround #Tribulation https://www.instagram.com/p/B6wEoNnFv6_/?igshid=1g1b76tvswnij
“But go your way, tell his disciples and Peter that he goeth before you into Galilee: there shall ye see him, as he said unto you.” ~Mark 16:7 There is something peculiarly touching about the two words “and Peter” (Mark 16:7). Peter must have spent the time of his Lord’s entombment in grief and agony of soul as he pondered his denial. He would not feel worthy any longer to be called one of His disciples. But the special message, “and Peter,” would be the assurance that Jesus loved him still and counted him as one of His own. Day 68 of Commentaries or Devotionals on the Words of Jesus from the Book of Matthew By Thomas Constable “Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.” ~Matthew 10:29-31 The same God who will not permit a sparrow to fall to the ground will certainly take care of His faithful servants. The Jews were very familiar of this illustration. The poor in Israel ate sparrows since they only cost a fraction of a day’s wage. The mention of the disciples’ heavenly Father ( Matthew 10:29) stresses His care that extends to the numbering of his or her hairs. Often people think that God cares only for the big things in life and is unconcerned about the details. Jesus taught the opposite. God’s concern with details should give us confidence that He controls the larger affairs of life. #Matthew10 #ServingJesusChrist #FearNot #YouAreWorthMoreThanManySparrows #HairsOfYourHead #AreNumbered #Jesus https://www.instagram.com/p/B3qUYtNFNWS/?igshid=95p9rg8204ph
Day 67 of Commentaries or Devotionals on the Words of Jesus from the Book of Matthew By Jamieson, Fausset & Brown “Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father.” ~Matthew 10:29 Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? In Luke (Luke 12:6) it is "Five sparrows for two farthings;" so that, if the purchaser took two farthings' worth, he got one in addition-of such small value were they. And one of them shall not fall on the ground (exhausted or killed) without your Father - "Not one of them is forgotten before God," as it is in Luke. #Matthew10 #ServingJesusChrist #TwoSparrows #SoldForOne #Farthing #Jesus https://www.instagram.com/p/B3n9XYSlsoe/?igshid=jihnx4e6da6u
Day 66 of Commentaries or Devotionals on the Words of Jesus from the Book of Matthew By Jamieson, Fausset and Brown “And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” ~Matthew 10:28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul — In Luke 12:4, “and after that have no more that they can do.” but rather fear him — In Luke (Luke 12:5) this is peculiarly solemn, “I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear,” even Him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell — A decisive proof this that there is a hell for the body as well as the soul in the eternal world; in other words, that the torment that awaits the lost will have elements of suffering adapted to the material as well as the spiritual part of our nature, both of which, we are assured, will exist for ever. In the corresponding warning contained in Luke (Luke 12:4), Jesus calls His disciples “My friends,” as if He had felt that such sufferings constituted a bond of peculiar tenderness between Him and them. #Matthew10 #ServingJesusChrist #DoNotFear #ThoseWhoKill #FearHim #WhoIsAble #ToDestroy #BothSoulAndBody #InHell https://www.instagram.com/p/B3mQm3slXwr/?igshid=x4imgbfcbm7t
Day 65 of Commentaries or Devotionals on the Words of Jesus from the Book of Matthew By Albert Barnes “What I tell you in the darkness, speak in the light; and what you hear whispered in your ear, proclaim upon the housetops.” ~Matthew 10:27 What I say to you in darkness … - That is, in “secret,” in “private,” in “confidence. The private instructions which I give you while with me do you proclaim publicly, on the “house-top.” The “house-top,” the flat roof, was a public, conspicuous place. #Matthew10 #ServingJesusChrist #WhatITellYouInDarkness #SpeakInTheLight #Jesus https://www.instagram.com/p/B3juAKbF1XU/?igshid=zbxjv11d45v0
Day 64 of Commentaries or Devotionals on the Words of Jesus from the Book of Matthew By J. C. Ryle “Therefore do not fear them. For there is nothing covered that will not be revealed, and hidden that will not be known. ~Matthew 10:26 Those who try to do good must look forward with patience to the day of judgment. "There is nothing covered that will not be revealed, and hidden that will not be known." They must be content in this present world to be misunderstood, misrepresented, vilified, slandered, and abused. They must not cease to work because their motives are mistaken, and their characters fiercely assailed. They must remember continually that all will be set right at the last day. The secrets of all hearts shall then be revealed. "He will make your righteousness go forth as the light, and your justice as the noon day sun." (Psalms 37:6.) The purity of their intentions, the wisdom of their labors, and the rightfulness of their cause, shall at length be made manifest to all the world. Let us work on steadily and quietly. Men may not understand us, and may vehemently oppose us. But the day of judgment draws near. We shall be righted at last. The Lord, when He comes again, "will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and reveal the counsels of the hearts. Then shall each man will get his praise from God."
