Nic was ready to give up, honestly. Somehow Luka kept popping up like a bad knut and insisting that he was just being friendly, and it seemed increasingly ridiculous to try avoiding him. It had been literal months and so far Luka didn’t seem to have shown any ulterior motives, and he just looked so guileless all the time that Nic was finally inclined to believe that he really was just that insane. Plus, he couldn’t seem to shake Yuki either and she frequently reinforced this perspective.

Which was why, for the first time, instead of ignoring him or questioning him or being subtle, when Luka appeared Nic held out a cigarette and also spoke a very clear incantation to set his jacket sleeves on fire. It wasn’t worth pretending anymore that he wasn’t the reason Luka frequently met with disaster while in his company, from spoiled food to tied-together shoelaces to spontaneously color-changing eyebrows.
