Yamasaki, Leinweber & Associates designed 22400 West Seven Mile Road for the American Concrete Institute as its first permanent headquarters (ACI was founded in 1905 as the National Association of Cement Users). Completed in 1958, it is instantly recognizable as the work of Yamasaki, even if you didn't know he designed it. According to the website, Michigan Modern, all ACI asked was for a dramatic building that showcased concrete as a viable building material. Needless to say, they got what they asked for. ACI relocated into a new building in 1996. In recent years, the building was home to Starr Commonwealth, a social service group. It is currently home to EcoWorks, a Detroit-based non-profit that provides services focused on community development and sustainability. #Detroit #Westside #NorthwestDetroit #CurtainWall #Modernism #MinoruYamasaki #SevenMileRoad #WestSevenMile #archi_ologie #MidModMondays #ModMondayz #BrickStory #RawDetroit #PureMichigan #PureMittigan #MotorCityShooters #PureDetroit313 #DepictTheD #VisitDetroit #Michiganders #ThisPlaceMatters #ThisPlaceMattersDetroit #MichiganPlacesMatter (at EcoWorks) https://www.instagram.com/p/CAWbkaRDa_n/?igshid=193zwsfxkyhet
