Homeless Writing Tidbit 7/17/13

Ancient lore states that the Seventh son of a Seventh son will have great powers. Depending on what part of the world you're from changes these ideas. You may be a healer or you may be a werewolf. Or in my case you may be the seventh child and your twin brother being the eighth, but still technically the seventh son. The problem for my brother was that I had been born first. This was against the rules, the seven boys had to be an unbroken line with no girls born in between. If our birth order had been reversed this wouldn't have been an issue.

There was much effort to draw out my younger brother's powers by my father, who was a seventh son of a seventh son, which would have made my brother a third generation seventh son of an unbroken linage. He had as to date no luck, with my brother. I on the other hand who listened in to their late night conversations practiced the spells my father patiently taught my brother. I excelled. I was brilliant at it, and no one knew. No one had a clue that the seventh child of Yawen and Irilda could in fact do magic.

I had memorized the prophecy and had taught myself how to read my father's magic book by the time I was ten and my father had given up on Thirnon. I was determined to prove to everyone that I was just as good as what my brother should have been.

On my sixteenth birthday, my father, convinced that I would never find happiness if anyone knew who I really was, gave me a pack full of supplies and told me that my only hope was to find somewhere in the world I was not recognized as the girl who was born too soon.

Irritated I took the pack and hugged my mother and twin goodbye. They were the only two I cared for, and who cared for me, aside from my father. He had always been gentle with me despite the anger I felt from him. I sometimes wondered if he knew I had the magic, but he never said a word to me about it. My twin and I had been surprisingly close. Both of us were treated as if it were our fault that we had been born in the wrong order. Many were kinder to my brother, but the rest treated us like pariah, as such we had a close bong. I had been tempted to tell him the truth a few times, but never found the nerve to. The rest of my siblings I did not hug, but did say goodbye to.

From there my life became one adventure after another, until I fulfilled the prophecy.
