Update about my area, no tornadoes but we did have a strong to severe thunderstorm. My town did sound off the sirens due to some rotation in the storm. Luckily, no tornado spawned from it 😊

✨Story Time✨

This morning (around 9:30 am), I was making the coffee and I notice outside the kitchen window that the wheat field outside my house looked off…

It looked like this. ⬇️

A very large patch of wheat directly blown down by the wind. Right now, it’s peak tornado season here in the Midwest and yesterday had severe weather warnings and tornado watches. So I go outside, put on my muck books and walk straight into this field to investigate. The patch in the image above was the largest patch. And it stretches for about a mile east. There were a couple smaller patches.

After a little internet research, it appears as if a small, short-lived tornado touched down in this field and knocked down wheat. Luckily my house wasn’t damaged and there were no downed branches. I sent the photos into the county emergency management department and they confirmed that it looked like tornado damage and they were going to send the pictures to the National Weather Service (NWS) for a more accurate answer than a bunch of guess work. From my best guesses, this tornado was so small and short lived that it didn’t appear on radar and that could’ve been the reason as to why a tornado warning didn’t go off last night. My dad looked around and think that it has something to do with nitrogen, be he isn’t fully sure.

I don’t know what will happen, but I’ll give an update if I hear back from the NWS.

Moral of the Story: Nature is really scary!
