While Hermione had no plans of addressing every single Returned personally, there were important names on her list that she felt more need to speak with than others. Most everyone here had given their lives for the cause she had spent her entire school years counting, but she didn’t know all of them. Of course she felt they all deserved to have someone address their sacrifices, but she was only one person, and she was a very busy person at that.
So, as she often did, Hermione formed a list. A list where the former Professor Snape was fairly close to the top. She’d spoken, of course, with Lily already. Then just a few moments ago with Regulus. But she had no intentions of getting back to her incredibly long to-do list until she spoke with the Death Eater turned spy and gave him the credit the man deserved.
It didn’t take long for her to spot the man, even among the crowd, his appearance being as distinctive as it was. There wasn’t quite as much confidence in approaching him, as she’d held when approaching others, as she could never be certain what sort of footing she would land on with the man. Even less so now with all the changes of circumstance. Even so, she held her shoulders back and her chin high as she approached him, mentally reassuring herself all the while. You are a Ministry official. You are not a school girl. He cannot deduct house points. You are in the position of power here.
“Professor Snape,” she greeted formally. He might not technically be a professor now, but he was still a Potions Master, and she figured some show of respect could only do her favors.
