Inflatable artworks take over the Bay Area with two exhibitions!  

SFAC Galleries Grove Street Window features  Jeremy Mende's site specific work, Untitled (This is a metaphor, No. 3). The installation centers on a 20 ft. inflatable dancing figure whose head is attached to a tube on the opposite side of the gallery and unable to wrangle itself free. The flailing figure is viewable from the sidewalk 24/7 though June 5. Don't miss it!

Check out more inflatable art with Blow Up at the Bedford Gallery in Walnut Creek! The exhibition features works by artists who use air to make creative inflatable sculptures. Artists include Guy Overfelt, Lewis deSoto, Momoyo Torimitsu, Claire Ashley, Lee Boroson, Patrick Flibotte, Billie Grace Lynn, and Andy Warhol. The Higher We Rise, The Further Away I Seem: A new installation by Matthew Gottschalk

On view December 16, 2014 – March 6, 2015

Matthew Gottschalk’s Grove Street installation includes playful structures and projections that emphasize the ever-changing nature of our urban landscape. Then look for the surprise. In his installations, Gottschalk is known for creating hand-carved wooden marionettes as protagonists. These marionettes serve as extensions of the artist, enabling him to playfully insert himself into a variety of landscapes and environments. A single marionette is placed into this installation, representing not only the artist but also the everyman.
