wdym, everyone should have known White was watching. White Pearl said it herself. Also remember Blue would shatter anyone who fused with a different gem, why wouldn’t she (and Yellow) also hate a human fusing with a gem, or even worse, a diamond. They’re not good or allies to the cg.
the fact that yellow and blue aren’t truly “redeemed” is kind of the point, my pal. they’re emotionally-driven heart gems who are only on board with not killing steven because they perceive him as pink. but it’s still a truce. you’re neglecting a lot of developments here.
1. blue and yellow have made themselves out to be tentative allies of steven’s. not in how they acted in the past, but in how they act now. they think they’re being perfectly magnanimous by allowing the rebels to be there in the first place, and they didn’t force anyone to unfuse or act their role after that truce was formed on earth (as much as they likely wanted to).
2. the ball is a new context, and from how blue explained it pre-ball, she made it clear that a big reason for them to act “their best” was because of white diamond. that’s why steven initially went along with sitting pretty and doing nothing. when white didn’t show up, it felt unnecessarily miserable. unnecessarily going along with homeworld’s rules, which both him and connie are opposed to.
3. while white pearl was there, the context made it very, very clear that the reason blue and yellow are acting this way is because white diamond was watching directly. which steven and connie couldn’t know, and they never agreed to acting like perfect little dolls as long as any of white’s allies were watching. they want white herself, because that’s who they have to make a plea to.
so the only thing they really did “wrong” was not being supernaturally aware that white was literally watching them through her pearl.
