@weirdestarrow i wrote... a tiny little blurb for you :)))

Delaware's head lays gently on Mass’ shoulder, the faint vibrations of his breathing thrumming where Del’s pressed snug against his father. A blanket is situated securely around him, speaking to the cooling temperatures outside as fall drapes itself over the country. From the opposing living room wall, the television plays some old Cartoon Network show. He hadn’t bothered to check what.

Across the many centuries he’s been alive, his father has never failed to feel safe and sound, warm and comfortable. Delaware burrows himself into the familiarity of it, a rarity that’s treasured among personifications, a precious moment where Delaware can feel younger.

Mass huffs, but there isn’t real annoyance behind it. He shifts just enough to bonk his and Del’s heads together.

“Are you sure you had nothing to do today?”

Tightening his grip on Mass’ arm, Delaware grumbles; “Not anymore I don’t.”

“Ehhhhh-” Mass pokes Del with his free arm, and Del narrows his eyes at him. “I’m not entirely sure that’s how that works.”

“At least I’m not several states away from my job. Unlike someone in this room.” 

A fake gasp. “How rude of you! Although I must say… Touché.”

Delaware grins. Above them the faint sound of commercial breaks echo from the television. Old spice commercials are always so weird…

“Isn’t that so cu-u-ute?” Del drawls, teasing, “the infamous hot-headed Mass coming to spend the day with me? Instead of working? Like he’s supposed to?”

Mass side-pushes him: “I have half a mind to drive right back if you’re gonna be like this!” 

“You wouldn’t do that.”

A despairing sigh. “No. I would not.”

The two personifications settle back down, content to lie free from negative thought while they were with each other. A cozy feeling soaks from Del’s blanket into him, and he yawns.

“I love you, father.”

“I love you too, Del.”

Del drifts off, the sound of the tv serving as white noise for the now quiet space. He tunes himself back into his father’s breathing, the natural lullaby lulling him into a peaceful sleep– one free of plaguing nightmares. Nothing could get to him when he was in his father’s arms.

Mass sighs fondly, looking over at his now-sleeping son. Once again, this sense of familiarity, all these hundreds of years continue to be worth it for Mass to see his kids happy. He leans over, silently pressing a kiss to Del’s forehead.

“Sweet dreams, my son.”
