He did, though the one thing he's famous for (killing Gan ning) is a fictional accomplishment.
He was a chieftain of a large tribe in Wuling. During the eastern campaign, Liu Bei sent Ma Liang to arrange an alliance with Shamoke's tribe, and shamoke brought his warriors to reinforce the Shu army. He was, however, killed in battle when the tide turned against Shu.
