I once heard from a friend that the storyline in post sgw archie sonic that introduces Eclipse and Black Death (Shadow Fall) was originally pitched as Mephiles and Black Doom

And with my impression of those two at the time (largely from the fandom) I remember thinking "huh that's interesting. Don't really see the similarities though"

However, now I understand. I have seen 06 and come back with an understanding of Mephiles

And now I understand that:

Mephiles 🤝 Eclipse

Fixated on Shadow and really really want him to join their side and rule with them

Do you ever think about how Eclipse largely refers to Shadow as "brother" (literally in quotes), while actively trying to convince Shadow that they're two of a kind and are destined to be by each other's sides and that he (Shadow) should join him (Eclipse)

But then it changes to a flat "brother" (zero quotes) when he's revenge seeking and actively trying to kill him

Do you ever think about how Eclipse calls him "brother" in a way that betrays that he doesn't know exactly what Shadow is to him, only that he knows they're kin in some way, and in a way that implies literal "brothers" may not exactly be correct, but then when he's willing to kill Shadow out of revenge and out of ensuring the safety of his family, he calls Shadow "brother" like he's just that.

"Brother in the way that I don't know how to define our relationship exactly but I know that I have a strong connection to you and want you by my side" versus "Brother in the way that yes we are connected through being of the same race but being 'family' doesn't mean that I hold any lingering feelings for a traitor. You're just family and nothing else to me"

Does it not make you insane?
