Those words sounded almost foreign coming from the assassin's mouth — quite the welcome boost to her already growing ego. Truth is, Sarah would have never guessed she was triggering any sort of effect on him judging by his controlled, firm posture alone.
The deviously charming smirk that took over her lips at that very instant didn't quite match the obvious disgruntlement in her gaze.
“No need to be scared, sweetheart.” The captain dared to press her hand against his chest, eyes boring deep into his own. “Just try anything funny and that'll change REAL quick.” The smirk disappeared as quickly as her hand withdrew, now replaced by the barrel of her pistol.

Right after he consumes a soul he’s sort of in a state of ecstasy for a bit.
Despite that, he’s happy when he can relax, enjoy the sun and listen to birds. After escaping the Temple, he had gained a new appreciation for nature and just ‘sinking into his freedom’ makes him feel wonderful.
When he got into a relationship with Varus he has become so much happier overall. Some of his favourite things are simply cuddling, seeing how Varus smiles and blushes and those rather rare moments when Varus is the one to initiate any kind of intimacy.
