A little late but I just wanna say that Legendary Butler Michelangelo (aka Tori Minami) stole my heart and sold it to Satan Jesus is he F I N E! gomen my inner yaoi devotee has risen from its slumber. I can't help but imagine all the (hotty hot hot woo god is it getting a little spicy in here) scenarios Honou will unintentionally (most of the time) involve Tori in. God KotoHono makes my kokoro leap across football fields! GREAT JOB WITH THE GENDERBEND AU TO THE BOTH OF YOU!!

9. “War’s End” kiss & 11. “I almost lost you” kiss

A/N: the following isn’t part of the actual story 030

The ninja panted harshly and suppressed the urge to vomit as she sprinted through the gore-splattered field. Everything was dyed in nauseating colors of maroon, dark green and poisonous black. Piles of corpses, many missing limbs and intestines, filled her vision while red eyes darted every which way in search of the only person that mattered. The lunar eclipse was over, for the moon once again bestowed the lands below with its blessed light, yet Nico was still unable to locate her beloved amidst demon carcasses.

“Nozomi!” She called out hoarsely and forcefully kept the panic at bay at the sight of the wreckage that was once the castle’s ethereal garden. There, slumped against the mystical tree, was the high priestess of Kaguya.

Nico hurried to the unmoving woman, her blood boiling in rage as she took in the latter’s dishevelled hair and torn kimono. Pristine white robes were long soaked in a hideous myriad of blood.

“Come on, wake up! This isn’t funny!” The ninja’s voice cracked in desperation while her eyes burned with tears.

Her heart, seemingly silent so far, finally resumed pounding when the miko stirred and weakly opened her eyes. “Nicocchi…?”

“Hang in there, I’ll go get Maki-chan and-”

“I-I’m okay, I’m just tired. None of this is from me, ne?”

Nico tried to calm down as she took a deep breath, confirming that most of the gore that covered the miko was from the demons she had eradicated. However, Nozomi’s pasty white skin and faint pulse remained worrisome. “No, you should still-”

She was cut off once again when she found herself enveloped in a tight hug. She felt the miko trembling in her arms and heard the latter’s muffled cries, which filled her with such helplessness that she couldn’t help but grumble to ease this discomfort.

“You’re making my scarf dirty.”

“It’s already dirty anyway.”

Since Nozomi refused to budge, Nico had to pry her away in order to stare into those reddened emerald orbs. “Why are you crying? We’re both okay… We won. It’s over.”

“No… I wasn’t strong enough,” the miko lightly touched a hideous scab that ran up diagonally from the black-haired woman’s hip to shoulder. “You were… I-I almost lost you.”

“Lost me? The great ninja Nico-sama? Have you been snoozing again, woman?” Though heartened by the concern, Nico snorted and tapped at Nozomi’s forehead. She paused in her rant to adjust the slanted crystal ornament above the latter’s brow. “Then again, what can you do without me?”

But byzantium-haired woman was still biting her lips in a feeble attempt to fight back her tears. Without thinking, Nico leaned in to kiss her precious person. She poured her feelings into this simple yet heartfelt gesture, hoping to ease Nozomi’s fear as well as her own. She told the miko, through the amorous movements of their lips, exactly how she felt.

I’m the one who can’t do anything without you, Nozomi.

Umi Sonoda, tragically confined to herbed for the day, wonders if there's anything worse than dealing witha throbbing headache and lurching stomach. It sucks. Being sicksucks. Really, really sucks—not because she's ill, but because her girlfriend had apparentlydecided that today's a good day to practice her godawful comedyroutine on her.

Honokapays little mind to Umi's exhausted glares, perched on the foot ofthe bed with a silly grin. Maybe Umi can kick her off, but.

“Wellwell, Umi-chan, you're looking rather ruff today!”

Oh,no. Oh no oh no. A shiver runs down Umi's spine.

Not the dog puns.

“Howabout your voice? Is it still a little husky?”

“Honoka.Please leave.”

“Aww,Umi-chan, don't be like that! I'll bring more tea up for you later!How about some snacks, too? Crackers? Bread? Maybe a pupsicletoo?”

“Ithink I may throw up.”

Honokaonly crawls a bit closer, still wearing that silly grin. Those deathglares Umi is so skilled at dishing out had lost their potency aftera couple years of dating, sadly, so there's little she can do butsuffer and wait for it to end. Ah, how she misses the days when shecould make Honoka cease and desist with little more than a well-aimedglance and threatening word.

“Don'tworry, you know I'll never fleano matter how sick you are!”

Sheleans in closer. Umi defiantly coughs in her face with no effect.

“Whoa,you know, I completely fur-gotto share this one joke, I think you'll really like it—”

Deargod. Umi helplessly groans. She can feel her life energy slowlyleaving her bit by bit with every pun Honoka throws at her. Incontrast, Honoka only seems to be getting more and more energized, asif she's draining Umi's spirit through bad comedy.

“Sooo,did you hear about the dog who gave birth to puppies on the side ofthe road? She was ticketed for littering.”

Honokajust about falls off the bed as she hysterically laughs at her ownjoke, and Umi wails into her hands.

Since Maki pulled a (dirty) trick on Hanayo this time, what if when the next time Maki gets sick, Hanayo has to pin Maki down by straddling her waist in bed so that Maki doesn't try to go to school/work. Then attempts to [shove] feed Maki Tangerine (least fav food) flavored liquid medicine, courtesy of Rin. Maki is mentally signing divorce papers (and maybe says it out loud), until Hanayo spoon feeds Maki tomato soup. Pana's grumpy bae be 2 much sometimes. ヾ（≧∇≦）〃

I’m laughing, omg, mentally sighing divorce papers. It’s not quite the exact same thing but I tried.

Just as Hanayo finished putting the vegetables into her shopping basket, Rin came running up to her, a box in her hands. “Here, Kayo-chin, the medicine!”

Hanayo turned to her, taking the medicine with a smile. “Thank you, Rin-chan–ah?” Her eyes caught on the labels, specifically the flavor of the box. “There… there isn’t any other flavor?” she asked worriedly. 

“Nope! Looks like everyone else is getting sick too, this was the only one I could find, nya!” she said with a shrug. “Maki-chan’s gonna have to suck it up!” Rin patted Hanayo’s shoulder, a gesture of comfort.

Hanayo let out an uneasy sigh before putting it into her basket. Rin gave her a comforting pat on the shoulder. “Well… I guess it can’t be helped…” she mumbled. 

Minutes later, Hanayo was unlocking the door to Maki’s apartment and taking off her shoes. She had expected it to be dark because of Maki resting up in her bed. Instead, she found the lights on with Maki awake and sitting on the floor in front of her laptop, typing away.

“Maki-chan!” she called out, putting the grocery bags on the counter before rushing over. Maki turned to her, eyes bleary and bloodshot.

“Hanayo?” she whispered in a nasty rasp, coughing slightly afterward.

“Maki-chan, why are you awake?! You should be resting up!” Hanayo bent down, trying to lift Maki to up. Maki weakly resisted though, trying to stay on the floor.

“G-got an essay due soon, and then my exams are coming up… can’t waste time,” she mumbled before turning her head away to cough into her arm. “S-sorry, let me get a mask–”

“No, you need to rest,” Hanayo said in a firm voice. “Maki-chan, you can barely even open your eyes! How are you supposed to remember anything if you study like this?”

“That’swhy I was typing the–” Maki paused to cough, clearing her throatafterward, “–typing t-the essay instead.” Hanayo glanced over at thelaptop screen.

“… Maki-chan,your sentences don’t make sense.”

“H-huh?”Maki turned to her laptop, narrowing her eyes. “A-are you sure? Iswear I was getting it right–ah, shoot, my head…” She closedher eyes and groaned weakly, rubbing her temples.

“Maki-chan,”Hanayo said insistently as she lifted Maki to her feet.

“Nooo…Hanayo, stop, I’m not done yet,” Maki mumbled, trying to reachout. Hanayo shook her head and hefted one of Maki’s arms over hershoulder, carrying her over to her bedroom. Though Maki keptprotesting, Hanayo found it easy to tuck her into bed.

“There,”Hanayo murmured, brushing back Maki’s hair. “Rest up for the nightand you’ll feel better in the morning, okay–oh! I have medicine, Ialmost forgot! Let me go get it.” She quickly turned around and ranback to where she had left the grocery bags on the kitchen counter,quickly grabbing the medicine and running back in.

Somehow,she wasn’t very surprised that Maki was half out of the blankets,trying to pull herself out of bed. Hanayo marched over to the bed andgently helped Maki back down to her pillow.

“H-Hanayo,I-I-I can’t, there’s too much to d–” she turned away and clearedher throat, pushing down her coughing fit.

“Tomorrow,”Hanayo insisted as she began to open the box, sliding out the containerthat was inside. After giving the instructions a quick glance,she unscrewed the cap, pouring some of the syrup out onto the cap.“Here, medicine.” She carefully pulled Maki semi-upright and putthe cup to her lips, hands on Maki’s chin.

Makiwrinkled her nose, raising her hand and pushing away the cup.“That’s… this is citrus flavored, isn’t it?” Hanayo tried not to sigh; she had hopedMaki wouldn’t find out but Maki’s nose wasn’t clogged as she hoped as it was.

“I’msorry, it was all they had in the store. But you still need to takeit!”

“I…I…” Maki made a face. “Don’t… want to. J-just, I’ll go tosleep right now, I d-don’t want to take it.”

“Maki-chan,”Hanayo cut in, smile on her face. Even in her sick state, Makifroze at that look and tone, realizing exactly the predicament shewas now in. “Do you remember what happened last time I got sick?”

Makilooked away, coughing slightly. “U-um… that… that was…” She coughed again, stalling for time. “I… j-just wanted you to, um, feel… better.”

“I feel the same way, I want you to get better, Maki-chan,” Hanayo said softly, reaching out and letting her fingers brush against Maki’s face. “And you’re not going to if you keep resisting.”

“Ha… Hanayo,” Maki said with a quiet whimper. Hanayo let out a soft hum, lifting the cup. “Ah, um… I… o-okay, I swear, I’ll stop trying to get out of bed, just don’t make me drink that,” she pleaded.

“… Maki-chan,” Hanayo said disapprovingly, leaning forward, one knee on the bed.

“No no no, I swear, if you make me drink that, I’m going to be so m–!” The words became a choked gasp as Hanayo, in a quick motion that surprised Maki entirely, pushed the cup to her open mouth and poured the medicine inside. Maki almost spat it out but managed to swallow instead. She gagged slightly afterward, turning her head to cough. “Ugh!”

“Shh, it’s okay,” Hanayo murmured with a giggle, patting her head. “This is for your own good, you know!”

“I… I know,” Maki said sullenly, her eyes trained on the wall as she scowled.

Hanayo couldn’t help the fond smile. “I’ll go make something for you to eat, get some rest first, okay?”

“… fine,” Maki said with a huff, pouting. Hanayo laughed at the sight. She couldn’t help but lean forward and press a kiss to Maki’s forehead, stroking her cheek afterward.

“I’ll make you all your favorite tomato dishes when you get better, okay?” She had to try not to laugh again when Maki’s eyes immediately snapped to her.

“R-really?” She asked, her voice slightly higher than normal before she blinked. She cleared her throat, looking away. “I-I mean, y-yeah, sure, thanks.” Hanayo let out a laugh and pressed another kiss to her forehead.

“I’ll be in the kitchen now, let me know if you need anything,” she said. Maki nodded and though she was still petulant about the whole thing, she eased herself back down into bed and threw the covers over her face, blankets covering even her head. Hanayo tucked her in and smiled at the muffled thanks she received. “Sleep well,” she murmured, patting Maki’s head before leaving to prepare food.
