Hi, I thought you'd be a good person to ask about this. I got some money for xmas as was debating buying my first bjd! I've been inspired by several blogs, and thought I'd take the plunge. However, my mum doesn't want me 'wasting the money', plus I'm not sure what I'd do with the doll once I got it, and I'm worried I'll change my mind afterwards, so I was wondering what advice you have for first-time bjd buyers, and if it's worth getting into for someone who can't invest 100% time/money. Thanks

I hope this is okay to publish (since you didn't say not to) because I think other people might have some advise for you as well. Since some parts of the community can be supportive with things like this. So hopefully other people will also provide advise so you have more than one point of view. 

As for your Mum, I would tell her that the dolls retain their value and as long as you look after it then it will keep it's value, or if it is limited edition it can even go up in value. So that might help with the "wasting money". They are like other collectables. 

As for what to do with it, do you mean what would you make it look like? Or what other things you might do with it? If you need me to expand on any of my answers or you have any more questions then please ask. I will do my best to help.  

Also how much you get into the hobby is up to you. Some people do only buy the one doll and stick with it. In a way you can invest as much time or money as you feel is right, or what makes you happy. At the end of the day it is a hobby, and at the end of the day should be fun. People in the BJD hobby also have other hobbies as well.

It is an expensive hobby though, that is the main disadvantage. The doll itself is a big expense, then you will have the face-up, wigs and eyes etc. So the cost can add up quickly, but how much more and how many dolls you get after that is completely down to you. Also some companies are cheaper then others so that is worth looking into. 

Some people also learn crafts related to the hobby, like sewing. This can help fund it if you become good enough, but until then it is a cheaper way top get clothes for your dolls. I don't recommend doing your own face-up's if you are not sure how much you want to be in the hobby though, since the raw materials can be expensive and you need things like breathing masks.

1. Your biggest hobby? I actually do a few things; like drawing graphics and traditional art stuff, gaming (mostly Mass Effect and TES) and... you guessed it... the internet. I know I seem like a very avarage teen but thats just life! ^_^

2. Your biggest fear? I believe it is just common sense to be scared of losing everyone you love... soooo lets just say I am deathly terrified of supernatural things attacking me (especially The Rake from creepypasta). P.S. DO NOT search up The Rake on google images. If you bring an extra pair of pants then you are welcome to do so.

3. What thought gets you out of bed in the morning? "I need to pee" or "I'm hungry". I know, I know... Lame XD

4. Favorite food? :3 ARE YOU SERIOUSLY ASKING ME THIS? IMMA EAT EVERYTHING!!! But in all seriousness, in Lithuania there is this thing called "Cepelinai". I shall let you search this up cause I have no idea how to describe it :P

5. What keeps you up at night? (thoughts/your computer/a friend you do stuff with/…) Well for the past few weeks me and my best friend Shygal90210 have been stalking FVK (Fearless Vampire Killers) every night, talking over Skype and stuff. I mean, its a normal practice for every teen... I hope XD

6. Favorite TV-Show? :] Ermmm... Breaking Bad or Supernatural? Can I pick both? No? Breaking Bad then, just because bald guys in glasses making meth.

7. What languages do you speak? I speak fluent Lithuanian (my native tongue), Russian (which I had to learn because my grandmother is not very good at Lithuanian) and English (which I had to learn due to moving to England). Atm I am learning Spanish in school, and I guess its going good.

8. Favorite memory? ^.^ Oh god this is hard thats what she said I don't really know... probably the one where I moved to England and first met all of my current friends. It is very funny remembering their reactions and first impressions I gave them XD I was a bit of an awkward retard. Who am I kidding, still am!

9. Favorite song at the moment? I have 5 favourites at the moment, which are all by the same band, Fearless Vampire Killers. "Exploding Heart Disorder", "Merchants of Decay", "Diamond Dust and Crimson Reign", "A Study in Dystopia" and finally "Death or Disgrace".

10. Favorite actor? Just because of my favourite movies like Pirates of the Carribean and Dark Shadows, it has to be Johnny Depp. He is just a precious man. And I swear, he never ages!
