new to the fandom and all so I have no idea whether anyone's talked about this, but.... Jason may be the leader, but Kim is the one who stirs them to action after Billy dies. She's the one who gets it together and gets them to take Billy to the ship. She's the one who makes the big hero speech that activates the morphing grid. Jason paralyzed by what he thinks is his failure (understandably), but she kicks them into gear... okay so I guess that's not a question just sharing an observation haha

I totally agree! I’ve mentioned this a couple of times too. If Jason’s the dad of the group, Kimberly is the mom who takes care of everyone when she needs to, including Jason, and she also takes charge when she needs to and I love it. We see in the Aftershock comic that Jason is a bit insecure when it comes to being leader (and Trini is the one who gets him into gear there) and he’s not the kind of leader who takes matters into his own hands and he’s not the kind of leader who would make a decision for everyone. He even said this to Zordon when he told Jason to get the rest of the Rangers to come back to the ship and train after they found it the first time.

I guess that’s why Dacre keeps insisting that there isn’t really a leader on the team because they all come to decisions together but Jason being the red ranger, helps guide them all. And when he can’t do that sometimes, Kimberly does and she does it well.

When Disney specifically asked for people of Indian descent to audition I don't know how ANY hate should be directed at her tbh. It's easy for people (not you but I've seen it) to say she shouldn't have taken the job when we're not trying to make a living doing what she does

So I've been doing nothing but jotting down notes for a heist AU that's sort of kind of based on the Italian job with Jason as the leader, Zack as the guy who blows shit up and drives like a maniac, Billy as the hacker, Trini as the one who crawls through air ducts and eavesdrops unnoticed and kim as a full on chameleon who can charm the shit out of anyone. Probably never do anything but build a whole world and history because I can't seem to commit to anything but.. but you wanted aus so...

Oooh that would be interesting, I’ll keep it in my ideas list. Not sure if I’d actually be able to write something as cool as that, maybe when I’ve written more for this fandom but this is such a cool idea! Thanks for sharing it with me :)

A Vauseman AU fanfic idea just popped into my head—Piper is an idealistic young politician (with a longtime boyfriend…yes, Larry lol) running for political office. Her opponent is an uber-wealthy, Trump-style buffoon and her new campaign manager - Alex - (hired by puppetmaster Bill Chapman, after he fired her old campaign manager) is hot, street-smart and isn’t above doing unethical and/or barely-legal things in order to help Piper win this closely-fought race. Sparks fly both politically and romantically (and we get a dose of political wish fulfillment lol) I just sent this prompt to @shallowbanana so I hope she considers it ...

I hope they start recognizing that POC aren't interchangeable as well. It would be nice if there were enough roles to go around that were actually well written and not just tiny background roles. But Hollywood is shit at representation. Even women are still getting the short end of the stick. I think the fact that there is a debate at all is probably a good sign, but the tone is just too much.

Yeah Hollywood really sucks at representation. It’s sad that Hollywood has caused some women or poc to wanna tear down other women and poc over stuff like this. These big movie studios are the ones we really have to blame.

to the critical folks: this has bene happening for years in Hollywood. They consider all types of Asian people interchangeable. They consider people from different Spanish speaking countries interchangeable. They are CONSTANTLY casting Indian actors as Arab/Middle Eastern characters (and vice versa; they also cast them as Hispanic characters and vice versa). The actors are trying to get work, and given how few roles there are for ANYONE of color, a little empathy might be in order.

Yeah it happens a lot in Hollywood. I guess we’re lucky they didn’t cast white people for Aladdin and Jasmine lol. But I hope these studios start realizing that poc aren’t interchangeable.

I have a real hard time blaming actors for taking work, especially in a case like this where (as you point out) DISNEY was the one asking for people of Indian descent. This is her livelihood, and this kind of role will get her a lot of exposure. I don't blame her for taking it. Maybe if Disney only asked for Middle Eastern people and she auditioned anyway, I could get on her, but come on. People have to work. That said, I'd have been happier with her as Batgirl lol.

(sort of continued) partly because I agree that the new Disney remakes are entirely pointless. Beauty and the Beast was basically a shot for shot redo, and they’re making a COMPUTER ANIMATED Lion King??? Like… again, what’s the POINT? Anyway… I’m done now haha

I agree but I also understand where the people saying ‘she should’ve turned it down’ are coming from. I don’t know what the script is like and for all we know, they could be changing Jasmine’s character and her origins and race. And Disney’s casting call for the movie was for Indian and Middle Eastern actors. She qualifies so she auditioned. 

But yeah, these live action Disney remakes are easy cash grabs for them since they’re using the nostalgia factor.
