Sometimes when they are in public, on the subway or just walking, Ian gets "clingy" and takes Mickey's hand for no reason or suddenly hugs him just because, after all the years of dreaming about it, now he can do it and he knows that Mickey will make some grumpy comment or some stupid little joke, but, inside, he actually appreciates it and is happy that Ian does it. Sometimes he even squeeze Ian's hand and rest his head on his shoulder just because he can do it.
Sometimes, though, they get people who look at them weirdly or even make sour comments behind their backs and in those cases Ian backs off because he knows Mickey still feels uncomfortable around homophobes and doesn't want him to get nervous (more than usual) and then Mickey simply starts telling, out loud so everyone can hear him, some story about how he kicked the asses of the homophobes who annoyed him when he was in jail.
Just to scare them away.
Cause no one can ruin Ian's nice moments without consequences.
No one.
