Cause like there is no way Zarakon keeps them together in the same cage. No he'd have two. Both with plenty of space and Luxury ornaments, because Shiro and Lance avatars are designed to be pretty and ornamental. So they are beautiful and have the finest things. And the cages are close, but just out of reach for Shiro and Lance to touch each other. So they can only see and talk to each other, but that's it. They can't help the other if Zarakon does something to the other.

Also, they can't really gain levels in stuff, so their fighting skills and such are always lower then those around them. So their escape attempts get foiled easy too.

Most of the time they hang out on the side their cages share. And are really snarky towards Zarakon or Sendak.

When Lance and Shiro didn't wake up, the rest of Team Voltron knew something was up. But it took them a while to figure out, because not even the game company knew what was up, and they needed to recover. However a picture for inside where Lance and Shiro were kept was posted online, and then they knew to go in and free them.

The ai found the Voltron group quickly once they entered the game. And helped them out in reach Lance and Shiro to free them. Poor baby just wants them back. Because I imagine them coding themselves in the game, and sneaking around to visit Lance and Shiro. Check in on them and keep their spirits up as much as possible. Because they still have their psyche protocols, so they help Shiro and Lance as mentally stable as they can. Yet the ai could never free them from within. It had to be from the outside. So they do everything to guide and help the Voltron team...and their helpers (the MFE pilot and Veronica, who are already a team before meeting Voltron.)

And yeah, little ai baby corrupts and destroys Sendak so bad when threatens their parents on the final level. They just want a happy family.

Meet a strange child thats too young to play the game at all. Kid looks like lance but has shiro's hair and eyes. Cue fluffy family situations and the kid ask to call them papa and to-san.

Because first of Lance and Shiro getting married and honeymooning. Second...a child!

Okay, but they have a little wedding, like just their little group of friends in guild. Everyone in the guild is happy for them, but not hurt all of then didn't get invited. (I imagine this is not too long after the whole Lotor thing, so Lance is still a little sad about taking a life, but he's getting over it in bounds by the time Shiro and him get married) And Shiro surprises him with the little secluded home on the newly cleared vacation level (like literally there is no threats on the level, just like a puzzle to unlock the next level). The two become crazy domestic in like the first few days they are there, and just living life and relaxing. Being the most newly wed couple they can be.

And they go on walks and have picnics all the time while they are there. Just exploring things and what not. But nothing ever happened on them.

So when they find a kid, both way two young to be a player, and to freely answering to be some NPC, they are confused. (Not to mention looking like a physical mix of the two) But they still take them in, and give them some food, and try to figure about if the kid as parents or what is going on. (Like if its some harmless quest or something). By the end of the first night Lance is already attached, and gently tucking the kid into the spare bedroom. Singing them songs and making sure they all comfortable for bed as he plays with their hair and tells a story. All while Shiro is watching with a soft smile on his face at his husband tending to the kid. Because its so cute, and Lance literally free of the sad weight of everything that has been weighing him down recently. And just soft boys being soft. So of course by the next morning Shiro is attached to the kid too. So they adopt them, even though they really don't know what the kid really is, and just become a cute family.

Now for cute family stuff:

One of then has to go on away on a mission for the Guild and we they come home they happy greeted by their kid and husband with dinner made

Family naps. They three of them all cuddled up close

Leaning in the doorway watching the other interact with the kid with the soft looks, because they don't want to ruin the moment.
