fgnjkfgn okok, but im probably never gonna work on it so dont blame me if i drop it like all other aus!! (sorry abt that btw, im very bad at not coming up w new things that take over my interests)

so like, this is all a very very very superficial rundown, since its smth i thoght while painting the doodle and it was a mess of ideas thrown together

so, it was mostly inspired by that one line in buzzcut season, “i live in a hologram with you”, and like, i know the whole song is about other stuff, but that one line man

basically, i built it up in a feeling of wrong-ness; shiro and lance live together, in a futuristic world, they love each other, they work together, theyre important, they have the life of their dreams. only, they start feeling wrong

the first one to notice is lance, he feels nostalgic, like he’s missing something, and in the search for what, he notices he doesnt remember, he feels homesick, but he is home…?

one day, deep in his thoughts, he has a close to death experience, and immediately bounces back, feeling even more wrong than ever

shiro is there to comfort him, but hes skeptical about lance’s feelings of wrong-ness

lance insists, and shiro starts to doubt himself too, he doesnt feel as bad as lance, but the feeling is there, he doesnt remember things, he tries to think of his life before lance and him got together, he goes to work and what happens is a buzz, he gets hurt and doesn’t feel it, he wakes up from heart stopping nightmares he can’t remember, his head hurts and he never questioned why his right arm just feels so wrong

everything feels wrong

i get a lot of imaginery when i listen to music, and there’s this one line in the song that says “so now we live beside the pool, where everything is good”, and then “but it’s so easy in this blue, where everything is good”, so i kept imagining shiro just trying to ignore the feeling of wrong wrong wrong that surrounds them, and getting angry with lance when he keeps questioning everything, because why can’t he just accept that they’re good, they’re fine, they’re happy

but lance cant let it go

he tries to figure it out on his own, leaving their apartment when he didn’t before, and shiro gets upset, and lance just keeps leaving and wondering just how long did they live in this city, whenhe doens’t appear to know or understand anything

he gets in trouble, more than once, and shiro gets asked by coworkers out of nowhere how is his relationship going, and he cant shake the feeling of discomfort at their insistence, even if afterwards he cant really remember what they asked for, or how they looked like

eventually, lance and him get in an awful fight, and lance cant understand why shiro would like to keep living like this

shiro says that its because this is all that he ever wanted, to live with him, to be happy, to be in love, to not have to worry every day that theyre going to die, to stop fighting

and lance asks, stop fighting what

and thats when it dawns on shiro

tbh i dont really know how it would happen here, if its because of them of if they had help from outside forces (aka the team), but they eventually find out that theyre in a virtual reality set up by the galra (or some other enemy that your heart desires) in a weird experiment, and when theyre about to leave, lance gets deeply hurt, and this time he wont heal like he did before, and shiro gets scared, bc theyre about to leave, and what if lance dies before they even have time to be free?

they leave, of course, lance wont wake up, but when the team picks them up, coran reassures him that lance isnt stuck in the virtual world, that theyll just put him in a pod and he’ll heal

and this is when shiro starts to question his sanity, because how does he know this isnt all another virtual reality? what if the galra only made them believe they escaped, and this is something to make them compliant again?

when lance wakes theres a whole new set of questions

was what lance and he had completely made up? were their feelings something their enemies manipulated to create some sort of reality where they can live happily ever after without even noticing whats happening bc theyre too busy being in love? shiro knows he was, he was so busy loving lance, and the life they had, it blinded him to the wrongness of their made up world, and when lance started noticing, he kept trying to deny and cover it

he was just so tired, he just wanted a happily ever after so bad

lance understands him, hes also skeptical about the reality of their world, but he knows his feelings were true, and still are

i dont really have an ending for this tbh, they try to overcome what happened together, shiro understands that he loves lance, and lance repeats that he loves shiro enough times that shiro starts to understand that too, even if its hard to believe

the team do their best, but sometimes they get frustrated about it all

most days, the thing that keeps them going going is that, whether theyre in a virtual or not, at least theyre together

Anon...why?! Because you know I'll turn the angst dial up a bit.

Cause like there is no way Zarakon keeps them together in the same cage. No he'd have two. Both with plenty of space and Luxury ornaments, because Shiro and Lance avatars are designed to be pretty and ornamental. So they are beautiful and have the finest things. And the cages are close, but just out of reach for Shiro and Lance to touch each other. So they can only see and talk to each other, but that's it. They can't help the other if Zarakon does something to the other.

Also, they can't really gain levels in stuff, so their fighting skills and such are always lower then those around them. So their escape attempts get foiled easy too.

Most of the time they hang out on the side their cages share. And are really snarky towards Zarakon or Sendak.

When Lance and Shiro didn't wake up, the rest of Team Voltron knew something was up. But it took them a while to figure out, because not even the game company knew what was up, and they needed to recover. However a picture for inside where Lance and Shiro were kept was posted online, and then they knew to go in and free them.

The ai found the Voltron group quickly once they entered the game. And helped them out in reach Lance and Shiro to free them. Poor baby just wants them back. Because I imagine them coding themselves in the game, and sneaking around to visit Lance and Shiro. Check in on them and keep their spirits up as much as possible. Because they still have their psyche protocols, so they help Shiro and Lance as mentally stable as they can. Yet the ai could never free them from within. It had to be from the outside. So they do everything to guide and help the Voltron team...and their helpers (the MFE pilot and Veronica, who are already a team before meeting Voltron.)

And yeah, little ai baby corrupts and destroys Sendak so bad when threatens their parents on the final level. They just want a happy family.

guess who’s team is back at the world series playoffs against the freakin yankees again

so!! it only seems fitting to bring back baseball shance!! it seems fitting that i finish up this fic while my team plays against the same team they did in 2017. coincidentally, i also wrote this while the astros played a nerve-wrecking game

anyways, onto late night chats by the pool and pretty boys crying 

Baseball Shance, 6/7

It was a nice night. Shiro could admit that, even with the ball of disappointment tightening in his belly. He stepped outside and a cool breeze ruffled his hair. It was just cold enough that his long sleeves and sweatpants could keep him warm. 

For a second, he closed his eyes. The air was clean and crisp in his lungs, and he made himself savor it. Tomorrow, they would be travelling again.

The game had only lasted nine innings, thank god, but they had been long and arduous. The team had filed into the hotel late. No one was splashing in the pool, and the only noise he could hear was the hum of the filter. 

Then, out of the corner of his eye, he saw a lump in a very familiar, rather ostentatious, hoodie. It was his older brother’s, Lance had said, when he lent it to Hunk. Dark purple, with a fused logo of Barney and Jurassic Park. 

Lance had pulled the hood up, but Shiro guessed he was staring at the pool. Reflecting, he thought, before he could stop himself from punning. He walked over.

“How’s the fish?” Shiro asked. 

“Not biting captain.” Lance scrubbed at his eyes with the long sleeve of his hoodie. “Probably asleep.”

“Mmm.” He sat next to Lance, the plastic strands of chair giving way under his weight. “Sounds like our batters.”

It was an even comment, but Lance flinched at it. 

“It wasn’t your fault,” he said, and now, Shiro could hear the strain in his voice, the kind that only came from crying.

“It wasn’t yours either,” Shiro replied. 

“Those two runs beg to differ.”

Shiro gave a small nod, because yeah, that happened. “The thing with lackluster pitching though,” he said, “Is that it doesn’t explain lackluster batting.”

Lance turned finally towards him. His eyes were rimmed red and narrowed. “I let that happen. I had to be pulled out after leaving two bases loaded. In four innings.” 

“And I had nine innings to get a run.” He hadn’t gotten one. The best Shiro had done was a walk, which came to nothing. They lost one to seven.

Fall had finally come to the south, and they had played in an open stadium. But the fresh air had done nothing to cool down the simmer in Shiro’s blood, freshly tuned to the roar of the crowd as their home team made yet another run.   

“That’s different.”

“Lance—”

“This is only the third time I’ve pitched for the Lions, and I,” he stopped and took a breath. “I underperformed.”

“You did.” Lance stared at him, clearly not expecting Shiro to agree so easily. He shrugged. Shiro wouldn’t be where he was, if he couldn’t be objective about his teammates’ performances. 

“But,” he continued. “That’s the thing about team sports. One person can’t lose us a game. We wouldn’t have lost if you were the only one who underperformed. We all did.” 

“Go team,” Lance mumbled under his breath. 

“Go Lions,” Shiro said, agreeing. “We lost, we get to try again. That’s baseball.” 

Lance gave a jerky nod, and Shiro saw his eyes prick with tears. Before they could even fall, Lance scrubbed away at them furiously. 

“Hey,” he said, catching Lance’s arm. Like most pitchers, Lance had broad shoulders, though he was leaner than most. Shiro could feel his muscles shifting under his grip. He loosened it slightly, and slid his hand down, to Lance’s wrist. It was slender enough that Shiro could wrap his fingers around it easily. Lance’s stared at him, his eyes still bright with tears, but his gaze steady. 

Shiro thought he could feel Lance’s pulse through the fabric of his hoodie. His heart pounding maybe just a little faster. 

“You can keep crying,” Shiro said quietly. 

Lance snorted and pulled his arm out of his grip. Shiro couldn’t feel temperature in that hand anymore, but his fingers still twitched, as if hit by a sudden chill. 

“Because if there’s one thing I need to do, it’s cry more.” Lance wiped at his face, but with more care. Less angry with himself, hopefully. “Sorry you had to see,” he gestured at himself, “that.” 

“No,” Shiro said immediately, and then promptly stalled on what else to say. The quiet was awkward now, in a way it hadn’t been even when they argued, albeit gently. “I think,” he said, “It’s kind of...”

“Lame,” Lance said wryly. 

“Brave,” he said, and meant it. 

Baseball had made Shiro cry before. Usually, not until he was alone. These last years especially, he was aware of how important it was for him to be strong for his team. But even as a rookie, Shiro would rather have died than cry in public. Just thinking about it made him recoil. 

The idea of being that vulnerable, in front of so many people, was terrifying. But Lance could do it. The harsh light of a stadium beaming down on him, a crowd jeering at him—and he could let it roll off him, like water washing off a wound. Lance could be exposed, and still be himself. Fierce and bright and cold enough to cut through you, even when his eyes were hot with tears. 

“I think it’s really brave,” Shiro said again, quietly. 

His lashes were still glistening, framing his eyes, which were just a touch glossier and more vivid. He was a pretty crier. Shiro almost said so.

Lance’s lips parted softly. Shiro leaned in without thinking. 

The door opened behind them, and new voices broke into the quiet, drowning it out. He heard a woman giggle and a deep voice whisper something that sounded flirtatious. 

Shiro glanced over and saw them heading over to the hot tub, too caught up in each other to notice the other two people outside. Shiro had a feeling, if they didn’t leave soon, he and Lance would get a preview to the kind of show hotels usually charged guests a premium for. 

“Come on,” Lance said and stood. “Just because we did badly, doesn’t mean they can’t get lucky.”

Shiro huffed out a laugh and got up. They left the couple to warm water and cool air. 

They padded along quietly to their floor. As the elevator took them up, Shiro thought about offering his room to Lance. From experience, he knew Hunk would have some kind of machine pulled apart on his bed. Tools clacking against metal, lights on. Hunk would tinker until he put it back together, usually around dawn. 

But he remembered that his room came with only one bed. Still, the offer was on his tongue and Shiro almost made it anyways.  

But Lance turned towards his room, and Shiro tucked those words away. It was for the better. His bed was a queen and they’d have to crowd into each other to fit. It wouldn’t be comfortable. 

“Shiro,” Lance said, before he walked away. He gave Shiro the first real smile he’d seen in hours. His full mouth spread slowly, into a sweet grin. “Thank you.”

With a voice that was suddenly dry, Shiro said, “You’re welcome.”

At the gym this morning, I had a random thought (I say random it was linked to the music I was listening to) of a Sleepy Hollow Shance AU. I am just unsure of what roles to give....

Cause on one hand, you got Shiro as Ichabod Crane, waking up in an time way beyond his own. Confused but still very proper and down to business about thing he needs to do. And Lance as Abigail Mills, who puts up with Shiro's weirdness, yet still like showing Shiro things, cause he cute. And just a local street cop way over his head, and like totally didn't sign up for any of that shit, but still does it cause he good person.

But on the other, you have Lance as Ichabod, being confused but still nice and proper. While Shiro is Abby and putting up with Lance's weirdness and trying to do his job.
