my giftee was @awiweily (happy valentine’s day!) and the prompt i took was married life. i’m a sucker for domesticity so i’m glad i got to draw one.💙💙

Hi @justashance !!! Im your secret valentine!! Barely making it, but here i am, and i tried my best, i hope you like it!!!! Both shiro and lance were nervous for their first valentines together so they went a bit overboard lmao (lance made the lion plush himself!!)

Ayyyy @robotjellyfish (tho thats your name on twitter I sure hope that’s your name here tooo) I was your giftee! The accidental love note prompt just couldn’t be in a picture alone! So a lil fic under the cut– hope you like it~

Lance hasn’t been so horrified since his time at the Garrison.

And that’s saying a lot because in the mere months since he left it; he’s faced literal armies of drones and aliens that want him him dead.

But here he is–eyes wide and body trembling–wishing that the ground would open up and swallow him whole.

And he KNOWS the floor is capable of doing so, because he’s fallen through it plenty of times already during their countless number of training exercises; when the castleship’s only purpose seemed to make him suffer–

“Lance, we aren’t in middle school anymore…” Shiro’s mild scolding is lined with amusement. After all their time together as a tight-knit group, long gone is the overly-stern front Shiro used to put on for the paladins, and he waves the sheet of paper as if taunting Lance. “Would you like to share with the class what you wrote?”

Lance is vaguely aware of Pidge snickering behind him, but all he can really focus on is the note he stupidly brought to their morning training.

It really did happen like middle school– Lance was caught, pen in hand, as he passed off his note to Hunk; sharing scribbles instead of their usual morning banter due to the lack of time lately between training and missions. Lance had missed their private conversations, and brilliantly thought he could talk to his best friend through notes….

“No…” is all Lance manages to breathe out; especially as Shiro’s eyes seem to catch something. His expression loses its playfulness in an instant and suddenly he’s turned his back to them, paper still in hand.

He must have seen his name.

Because of course Lance would tell Hunk how Shiro was looking “extra radiant this morning”– and of course Hunk’s lighthearted teasing how he “needs to stop crushing on their leader” would catch Shiro’s attention.

“Shiro?” Keith eventually prods when the room is silent for far too long, even by his stoic standards. “What is it?”

Shiro doesn’t answer Keith directly, only clearing his throat. “Lance, if you could join me outside for a minute?” His tone is steady, but he walks out into the hall without looking back at the group.

“Someone’s in trooouble~” Pidge seems absolutely gleeful at the development, but after another beat of uncomfortable silence from everyone in the room, is quick to backpedal. “I’m… sure it’s nothing, Lance.”

Hunk for his part seems just as mortified as Lance is, but the concern is all on his best friend’s behalf rather than any personal blame he’s due to receive. When the other younger man doesn’t move however, he gives Lance’s shoulder a gentle shake. “G-Get going buddy.”

Lance drags his feet, and despite his blank stare as he walks, his mind is threatening to drown itself. What is Shiro going to say? Will he kick Lance off the team? Is he allowed to do that? They’ll never be able to look each other in the eye again–

In the hall, Shiro seems flustered–the incriminating note fully unfolded–and Lance tries to force himself to relax. No matter how uncomfortable the situation, Shiro would never do anything that drastic or mean-spirited… He’d just let Lance down easy and they can all go on with their space lives.

“I don’t think you should spend our training time studying my ‘cute smile,’ Lance…” Shiro begins with a disapproving frown–and ouch, Lance didn’t think Shiro would start off like that– but the frown is quickly replaced with a smile again, grey eyes averting slightly. “…You can focus on that afterwards.”

What?

“You heard me.” Shiro’s tone is serious, but his smile is warm.

“I said that out loud?” Lance squeaks before clearing his throat with a nervous laugh, hand immediately reaching up to run his fingers through his own hair. “I mean, of course I did–”

“Turns out– I think your smile is pretty cute too.” And Lance must be hallucinating, because as Shiro refolds and hands the note back, he winks at him and– wow, is that an even better look on Shiro.

“For now though… We need to go back to running our drills.” Shiro seems thrilled at how red Lance is, but turns to return to the rest of their group with a small wave. “Join us after you’ve had a moment to collect yourself.”

“R-right…” Lance grabs at his own chest as if to still his racing heart.

“…We can stare at each other some more later.”

His hand drops immediately to his side again; pretty sure his heart just stopped on its own.
