Mr. Getson: Mr. Speaker, I’ve said it in here before. The Member for Edmonton-Glenora laughed when I said it, and we’ll see if she does the same thing. When I walk into the room, I walk in knowing I am not the smartest person in the room. When I do that, I don’t pontificate, and I’m not an arrogant so-and-so that sits up there and says condescending things.
Lac Ste. Anne-Parkland UCP MLA Shane Getson criticized the salaries of those who run Alberta Health Services on social media Saturday.
A UCP MLA is under fire after he suggested Alberta's public health authority is to blame for "unacceptably low" ICU bed levels as COVID-19 hospitalizations soar in the province.
"ICU bed levels that were available for the public dropped unacceptably low coming into cold and flu season and a prediction of the 4th wave," Lac Ste. Anne-Parkland MLA Shane Getson said in a Facebook post Saturday. "Hence the 'crunch and strain' on the system.
"The wave hit, but AHS didn't staff the beds adequately to meet their own predictions?"

Mr. Nenshi: One of these is that rights are endowed to each of us by [the] virtue of being human. They are not rights that are granted by this Legislature. They are granted by virtue of being human. They are inalienable. [And] they don’t get suspended in times of emergency. Rights, being inalienable, exist at all times.
Mr. Getson: Where’s Rachel? God, I miss her.
Mr. Nenshi: I can see that the member opposite doesn’t believe that, that he believes that his own voice is more important, but I’d be interested for him to stand up and defend this legislation and tell us if he believes that rights are inalienable, that rights are granted by the Creator. If you do believe that, Madam Speaker, it means that you do not believe that human beings have the right to take away other human beings’ rights.

Mr. Getson: I had a choice to eat chips in the back lounge or listen to the speech in here, and I definitely took the choice to come in here and listen to this fulsome debate. I’ve heard some very compelling arguments, and I’m trying to figure it out. Like, they’re good arguments, but I’m pretty much one-eighty from where the positions are coming. There’s an old saying that says that for you to catch a thief, you have to, you know, think like a thief. I can’t get the socialist mantra. I’ve tried to listen to it here, and I can’t get it.
