Heavy Rotation - Rebirth by Illness Sickness
So these guys aren't playing in Shanghai until November (the 10th and 11th), but we thought we'd give you a teaser of their stuff now. This four-piece progressive instrumental rock group hails from Beijing and started out as a jam session...this song comes from their EP which was recorded in bedrooms and living rooms over several months in 2013. Good headbanger of a song.

Heavy Rotation: Another Me and You Song by Girls like Mystery
Exciting times, people - Girls Like Mystery are debuting their new album, Distance Changes Everything, this Friday at Yuyintang. This track, Another Me and You Song, is off their new album; I can't quite put my finger on why but this has a good end-of-summer-song vibe to it.
Several bands in Shanghai have been doing their art to keep the glorious art of the music video alive. The Fever Machine released a video for their song "La Chupacabra" last year, before disbanding. Pairs collaborated with Redscale Studios to release a whole crapload of videos for the tracks off their recent release Grandparent. My band Death to Giants put out a couple vids as well. And now we have very well-made video for "Carne Seca," the lead track off Round Eye's debut album Full Circle, a split with US punkers Libyan Hit Squad. A large portion of the video is filmed in and around Juju, a longstanding practice space and recording studio that's somewhat of an institution amongst the indie rock scene here in the city.
The video starts as a wonderful, saccharine, satirical love story and...I don't want to ruin it for you, just watch the damn thing yourself. -i
