CALLING ALL PHOTOGRAPHERS!!!
Ever gone to a photography exhibition and thought "I've taken better shots than that!" If so, here's your chance to prove it. The Alliance Francaise de Shanghai (the French equivalent of the Confucius Institute) is running its annual international photography competition, the theme of this fourth installment being 'We play games on Earth': make of that what you will. This competition is open to all amateur photographers over the age of 18, and entry is completely free, so if you fancy yourself as a bit of a whizz behind the lens, this is a fantastic opportunity to get your work out there.
Last year saw 167 Alliances (there are 835 across the globe) in 75 different countries submit work for the competition, and having claimed the title last year, Shanghai is looking to once again triumph in this global battle royale!
The competition runs as follows. From 6th November -15th December this year the Alliance Francais de Shanghai will take submissions for the competition. On 22nd December a jury of Shanghai based industry experts (including Ning Xiaogang, last year's winner) will select twenty of the best from all submissions, which will be featured at an awards ceremony on 11th January 2014 (there is also mention of prizes going to the best three photographers). The twenty selected photographs will then in turn be featured at an exhibition at the Alliance Francaise throughout next year, with the top three of these photographs being submitted to the international competition, presided over by a jury back in Paris, who will decide the international laureate. The overall winner is offered an expenses paid trip to Paris as well as an individual exhibition in a local gallery over there! Even better, their two photographs, along with others selected by the Parisian jury, will be included in a travelling exhibition that will go to Alliance Institutes across the world. Not bad eh!
There are a few rules. First, this competition is for amateurs/ semi professionals only, and participants must be over 18. Entrants can submit no more than two photos to the competition. Photographs can be sent to [email protected], and must be in either TIFF or JPEG format with a 300 DPI resolution (minimum 3543x4724 pixels). The theme of the competition is 'We play games on Earth', so pretty open ended.
The competition closes on 15th December, so that gives you a month to get out there and find the perfect shot. Come on Shanghai! Let's bring the title home!
