MixRadio ‘Ones to Watch 2015′ // - #12 Shannon Saunders

Singer songwriter Shannon Saunders' star continues to rise, a Youtube sensation totting up views in the millions, we caught up with the sensational talent that is Shannon to find out how her 2015 is going. Read this exclusive interview to find out what inspires her and what Shannon's top pick for 2015 is.

You’re currently on your 1st headline UK tour – How that’s going?

It's been such a great experience! It's crazy to think the audience is there for me and so keen to sing along to songs that haven't evenbeen released yet. I've supported quite a few different artists now, soit's lovely being able to have my own turn at what they've been experiencing,this time with my own fans. 

What’syour plans for 2015?

I've caught the live bug I think, after this tour especially. So expect lots more live shows of my own and also with Wilkinson and we'll also be doing all the festivals together this summer.

Tell us about your debut single (which was out Nov 14) ‘Silly Little Things’?

I remember going into the studio a couple of years ago after a bit of a row with an ex. I'd had enough of the relationship and as a songwriter my best kind of therapy is writing about how I feel at the time. So basically a bit of an F U song was in order. 

 Who influences/inspires you and why?

As a writer situations I'm faced with everyday inspire me. Whether it's based on my own relationship with someone at the time or a stranger saying something in a particular way on the tube. I'm a huge believer in the law of attraction. So anyone who has a positive attitude towards everyday life inspires me too. I surround myself with very positive, spiritual people and really go with my gut instinct when decision making. I'm also a huge fan of Jessie Ware and her music. She's such a lovely, down to earth person too. 

What artists have you chosen in your MixRadio mix and why?

I basically collect together a selection of my favourite songs at the moment - it's such a large variety of different music. It's great to listen to on the way to writing sessions to get a boost of inspiration, whether it be a subject or certain vocal melodies I love. It varies from artists like Jamie XX to Major Lazer to Hozier. If a song really connects with me I will listen to it over and over again. This is basically a collection of all of those special songs for me. 

Finally, If you could choose one artist who in your eyes is a ‘One to watch for 2015’ – who would it be?

Definitely Age of Luna! They're going to blow up this year. They're such a lovely, genuine, hard working bunch too. You can tell they just love what they do by listening to the music they're creating. This is going to be a big year for them. "Six Feet Deep" is my song of 2015 already!
