SHAO’S ANCESTORS ☆☆☆

Onaga's bloodline is spread apart enough that the Draakong are their own race/species (albeit a small one). Polygamy was the norm at the time, so it wasn't odd for Isla to have two husbands. Plus, all the cross-breeding and bad gene combos over time have left some Draakong with reproductive defects. If one spouse couldn't give you children, you find another. Having kids was rather important to a species of such small numbers. The population wasn't helped when Edenians started enlisting them as weapons for war.

Long story short, the Edenians feared Onaga's strength and enlisted his own kin to take him down. These three were the optimal choice. Any Draakong who wasn't stationed in Edenia for some reason related to fighting was in a far-off state working on a farm.

Obie isn't necessarily against Seido, just oppressive governments. Tovach just so happens to live in Seido, so maybe Seidan liberation is a bit higher on Obie's priority list.

Sha-xi (Little Shao)

A first-person perspective work on Tovach's speculation on how her brother ended up the way he did.

They say evil isn't born but created. It leaves me to wonder what could've happened to Shao to make him that way. I know he wasn't always like that.

Born the smallest out of all of us, but somehow had the most effect on our mother. He nearly died and took our mother with him just by being born, but Mama was a fighter, and we could tell Shao was too. He came with an array of allergies, everything from pollen to shellfish. Couldn't drink milk, couldn't eat eggs, couldn't even step outside, really. His immune system was fragile. While we would roll in mud, he was locked up in our home with our father.

Mama was… unfit to handle Shao. Once… she tried to drown him… I've never heard any of my siblings cry as loud or as hard as Shao did that night. Father rarely expresses fear of anything, but it's safe to say that, that night, he was terrified of his own wife.

Mother had herself locked away in her room for a while. A year or so, maybe more. That left the rest of us to take care of Shao. I grew fond of him. I called him Sha-xi. The others would train him to be a soldier. I took it upon myself to teach him more technical skills. He won’t tell you that, but he knows how to knit. I taught him that.

Time passed, we both got bigger, that sort of thing. Father started taking him to the palace, and Shao became a private in Father’s army. Shao climbed the ladder, and before we knew it, he was the new general. I’m sure Father would’ve been proud. I know I am.

My guess is, around that time, the power got to his head. It would also be likely that he wasn’t happy with the royal family, but he never made any mention of his distaste. At least, not to me…

And then… all those things happened… It was like he was a completely different person… We have been so separated, it’s like he’s a stranger.

I felt… and I still do feel… such a duty to him, so even more so do I feel like I have failed him.

I'm sorry, Sha-xi.
