Okay, so I know I said that when/if shape-shifting Ik lost her hand she could just regrow it. BUUUT!

Are we certain she would even lose her hand in this au to begin with?

Hear me out here, Ik has been in the Devildom for a decent amount of time by now, she's almost definitely looked into a bunch of fantastical Devildom creatures.

So she's standing there in front of Luke and Beel, wanting to keep them safe and thinking about how Lucifer is being a big dumb bully. And so she starts thinking, what animal could she become that would help her in this situation? An elephant? A whale? A tyrannosaurus? She remembers a conversation she had with Professor Elderflower about a week ago about a species of dragon that was as large as mountains that went extinct from the Devildom around a thousand years ago. Ik had somehow stumbled across a book that mentioned them. Professor Elderflower was happy to talk and even gave Ik some book recommendations on the dragon and others like it.

Ik thinks this is perfect, she'll transform and protect her friends! And maybe even cause Lucifer to think twice about being a bully around her. But Ik forgot one, very crucial detail. These dragons took centuries to fully mature and grow to their full size. So instead of being a massive dragon capable of straight up swallowing demons whole, she transforms into a dragon only double her human size. She is not fully discouraged however, it's only a minor setback! And she IS still bigger then normal! Unfortunately she isn't quite used to this new form yet, so she's bumbling around a bit, but that's alright, she is still a dragon! A very, intimidating?? dragon?? She looks a little like a wet kitten, and Lucifer looks more perplexed then intimidated but she still has one more trick up her sleeve!

She opens her mouth and let's out a roar! Well, what she wanted to be a roar. It sounded more like a squeaky chirping as she attempts to step forward. But in dragon years she is still just a baby and her legs are decidedly not very helpful. She stumbles and promptly falls on her dragon snout.

Lucifer is now, strangely feeling something akin to what he felt when he first took Mammon into his care, this small bumbling creature couldn't possibly be a threat, especially with how Ik is trying (and failing) to breath fire and only tiny little sparks are coming out. Lucifer is looking at this small child and can not help but be charmed. Especially when Ik tries to thrash around on the ground and accidentally smacks herself in the face with her own tail.

Lucifer certainly can't hurt the child, certainly not after she's gone and reminded him of Mammon when he was a child. So uh, task failed successfully, Ik! Task failed successfully.

oh my god ik would be so delighted to realise she could turn into a big cool dragon. and then so disappointed when she finds out her age translates into only being able to transform into the dragon equivalent of a clumsy baby bird whose head is kinda too heavy for its body

she's so embarrassed but because she's so flustered she can't get a handle on her transformation and lucifer just watches, baffled, as this bedraggled juvenile dragon dithers and then finally stumbles into the corner and attempts to hide her face inside a vase. operation calm-down-lucifer-and-rescue-luke turns into operation try-to-coax-small-dragon-out-of-vase

i think this would become lucifer's like no.1 favourite Embarrassing Memory. he brings it up at every single birthday and he's never any less amused by it. in fact his smile while recalling it seems to get larger every year. even once ik is old enough to actually transform into a fully grown scary dragon he's just always thinking about the squeaky baby hatchling from that incident

the only thing stopping him from recounting it even MORE often is the fact that he was about to attempt to kill her just prior to it happening

🌈🐸 anon back! (I'm sending so many asks, I hope I'm not disturbing you)

As someone who also always picked shape-shifting as a power, I must say. It's the best.

Like, you wanna fly? Bird. You wanna run really fast? Cheetah, or roadrunner. You want super strength? Gorilla. You wanna breath underwater? So many fish in the sea, pick one you like. You wanna be able to regrow your limbs(👀) and also some of your brain? Axolotl.

But onto the main topic. Ik. I personally think that being able to turn into any animal you know a lot about should also allow you to talk to those animals. So Ik gets down to the Devildom and IMMEDIATELY starts Disney princess-ing ALL of the animals. She makes friends with all of the animals in the area, including the stray cats, the little bugs, and even this odd little Devildom creature that looks a lot like a little bunny, but with fangs. (Ik learns later on that apparently this adorable little bunny is actually highly venomous. So now if anyone is mean to her the adorable fluffball is going to do a murder)

But anyways, because of her befriending all the cats I feel like Satan would try to befriend Ik sooner. (He wants to pet the kitties and everyone knows it but Ik. Even the cats know it) But say Ik looses something, maybe it's a little trinket from her dad, but immediately she goes and calls a meeting with all the animals in the area. They find the trinket in less than thirty minutes. (Ik accidently left it at the picnic table she ate at at lunch)

whenever someone has the ability to disney-princess it i always love to imagine the animals gossiping. ik hears first-hand about all the brothers' weird phases from the mice in the basement, the birds around RAD have all of the relationship drama on tap. henry 2.0 goes blub blub and she gasps and goes "really??" and levi shrieks "WHAT HE IS TELLING YOU" before frantically bundling her out of the room

satan asking ik anxiously "do they like me? do the cats like me?" and she reassures him that yes, they do, while carefully leaving out the one tabby that for some reason has massive beef with him and insults him whenever he's around

ik tells one (1) finch that she's looking for her keyring and next thing anyone knows an entire storm of them is zooming across rad grounds. professor elderflower has to be called to reassure everyone that this isn't some kind of ill omen of disasters to come

Anyways! Shape-shifting Ik gets nightbrought, and, because Satan clearly needs some friends, Ik goes around and bribes all the cats in the general area to be nice to Satan and give him the cat cuddles.

On another note. You said in one of your responses that Ik turns into a crab when she's sad/upset about something, I suggest hermit crab. The ones that finds shells to make into their homes. Ik doesn't spawn with the shell though, so the first few times she turned into a crab she got even more sad (and a bit scared/frustrated) because she doesn't have her shell. (This is remedied soon ish though because she goes shell hunting and/or Mammon saw her upset WHILE shell hunting and so he got her one (he refuses to admit it was him)) But now she carries the shell around with her everywhere just in case.

In this au, I wonder if (at least part of) the reason Ik decided to charge at Henry in the catacombs was because she thought that maybe she could talk to Henry and befriend the danger noodle? I think she would.

nb! satan would actually adore ik nearly immediately i think. best friend within a day, would kill and die for within a week

sad hermit crab ik :((((( mammon finds her huddled inside an old mug and it just about breaks his heart. he digs through his room for longer than he will ever admit to find an actual shell and nudges it towards her while pointedly looking away and declaring loudly that he "just found this on the ground out side or whatever, you can have it if you want"

(it is a very shiny and pretty shell. ik is not fooled in the slightest. he even gave it an extra clean and polish before he gave to her)

ik trying to talk to henry 1.0 while he's still feral and just getting back "ANGRY...... HUNGRY........ LONELY....." in response :( trying so so hard to communicate back and tell him that levi misses him :( translating a conversation between the two of them while levi tries not to burst into tears and fails :(

bonus: ik talking to cerberus and finding that that he has some kind of really undignified address for lucifer, like "big bird" for his wings or something

🌈🐸 anon, back again. (heads up, this is a long rant, sorry not sorry, I couldn't help it)

More on shape-shifting Ik, specifically axolotls.

I was thinking after the whole Ik-losing-her-hand thing she wakes up, notices her missing hand, and is just like "aww man :(, not again"

Cue Mammon, Levi, and Beel freaking the fuck out. (I head cannon that in this au Ik learned all about how axolotls can regrow limbs and, due to having an access amount of alone time and being bored) wanted to test if she could regrow limbs. So Ik just makes her entire arm axolotl and slowly regrows her hand, much to the horror of the entire cast minus Solomon, (who knew of axolotls and this ability) and Mephisto (who found it awesome, Alecto did as well).

Ik leaves the situation significantly less scared because she was able to get her hand back, and so she's kinda less scared so much as kinda pissed (cause even though she could regrow her hand, Lucifer clearly wasn't aware she could and her hurt her).

I say they don't know about axolotl limb regrowth, because if they don't know about how human world plants photosynthesis there's no way they know about that.

I also imagine that the whole Belphie attic issue, instead of Ik dying, I think she'd end up platypus clawing his arse and maybe also kangaroo kicking him in the face. (He has bruises all over and also platypus venom ow) After he calms down and realizes that what he did was fucked up he's just *sad goopy demon face* "yea... I deserved that..."

On a less angsty note I whole heartedly agree that Ik will rant to anyone she can about her cool animal facts (I like to think Ik would especially enjoy the morbid facts about animals, like how kangaroos will lure other animals into bodies of water and drown them). I feel like at first, in the context that they all know about her shape-shifting ability, I feel like Lucifer and Belphie especially might consider her ranting about a bunch of animals' morbid facts a threat. They're reading to much into it and Lucifer quickly realizes that when Ik proceeds to also rant about these things to anyone else who will listen. I feel like Diavolo and Satan would both enjoy this, whether they would admit it or not (looking at early days Satan). Not to mention that Ik's face lights up with what can only be described as pure unadulterated joy when Satan and Professor Elderflower talk to Ik about Devildom animals.

ik would be such a walking encyclopaedia of animal information... she'll ease you in with some regular fun facts but if you really get her talking, she'll start telling you in detail about migratory patterns and detailed day-by-day accounts of brood parasitism or metamorphosis as well. she may very rapidly become professor elderflower's favourite person in the whole world

one really cool feature of axolotl regeneration is that they can accept foreign transplants from other individuals as well... i'm imagining ik telling solomon about this in detail and he's immediately like "oh my god can we try that" and she has to quickly discourage him from bringing her a human hand because that's not how it works man

waittt what if ik has to undergo full shift in order make full use of a form's biology, so she just has to spend the next few weeks as an axolotl while she regrows her hand. mammon carries her to her classes in a big jug so that she can still listen in on her lessons

oh the feathers idea is so so cute, just :O!!! and her hair goes all fuzzy at the ends and a bunch of little downy feathers poof out of her head :'))

platypus...... i love platypus...... sorry i'm just basking in the glory of this idea

mischief is a goose. she just becomes the goose from untitled goose game and everyone is scared of her

ik already is very readable so imagine how much this is exacerbated with shifting telegraphing her emotions- wwwwwait maybe when she's sad her body automatically tries to shift into a small safe form, so everyone knows something is wrong when there's a little crab hiding in a flowerpot in the garden

Hey! Gay Frogs anion here! I couldn't stop thinking about Ik, so here's a fun idea for an AU!

So, I was thinking about your dragon hybrid au and then just kinda shape-shifting in general. Then I was like, Ik... Shape-shifting... Shape-shifting Ik!

In this au I'd say Ik's massive interest in animals would definitely be fueled by the fact that if she knows enough about an animal she can shape-shift into that animal. This also makes it possible for her to shape-shift into Devildom animals too! (I also really wanna see you draw Ik as a Puffball, shhhh, I didn't say anything...)

I also love to imagine that when Ik gets really excited (or really just feels anything strongly) she loses control a bit and just *poof* now she's got some odd combo of random animal features, a hellhound tail here, Ik's favorite lizard's eyes there, chicken feet, maybe one of her hands is a paw now, just really silly mixes all around.

oohh this appeals greatly to the child in me who always picked shapeshifting as a superpower during make-believe

the mischief she could wreak with such powers though. imagine the things she could get away with as long as she shifts into a small and unassuming bird to hide in plain sight. imagine barbatos's horror when he realises this lovely young human can and WILL turn into a rat on a whim to get places easier. he starts becoming irrationally anxious that any pests he clears from the castle are actually ik in disguise and that he accidentally just sent her to the shadow realm

ik is not allowed to turn into bugs because everyone is terrified of accidentally squashing her if she does. when ik asks "would you still love me if i was a worm" she means it completely seriously. she's fond of dispelling tense moments by turning into the most disarming animal possible in that situation (lucifer finds it really hard to stay blindlingly angry at a large pink flamingo)

it could also be fun if the shapeshifting translates such that she can copy the brothers' demon features (but not the brothers themselves). she can mix-and-match their horns, wings and tails and it's adorable

and! in terms of puffball ik... i'm away from my ipad right now but here is my best effort using a browser art thing on my laptop:
