Semi-annual Bacchae posting over now I’m normal again
Taking this Halloween night to catch up on Critical Role because nothing is scarier than what Brennan Lee Mulligan can do to my feelings
Playing Nine Sols has been great bc I got the game based on seeing gameplay clips and comparisons to Hollow Knight, so I didn’t pick up on the fact that it was sci-fi. I’d heard it described as ‘Taopunk’ but I’m quite oblivious and didn’t make the connection, and assumed any tech in the game was going to be your typical fantasy ‘ancient civilization magic-tech’ thing.
I do not regret this at all. I think the optimal Nine Sols experience is interpreting the first five minutes through the framing of a typical xianxia and then having to rapidly restructure your understanding of the setting after being hit with the space imperialists decapitation factory
Just got to the first big Jarthur divorce moment, I feel like I’m having the true Malevolent experience now
Malevolent episode 12.
Me: how do I know if I’m REALLY aromantic. I’m still young. Maybe I really haven’t met the right person. I’m just exaggerating how I dislike romance because it’s annoying written in mainstream media, right?
Also me: oh wow a ship fic with two characters I really like. I can’t wait to read all the angst and character exploration and then immediately get uncomfortable and start skimming when their relationship is resolved and they start acting romantic towards each other
Hey has anyone ever thought about how messed up IDW Ultra Magnus is from specifically Optimus’s perspective. Like, they were friends. Imagine if your friend died and someone else just. got inside his corpse and kept pretending to be him. And a bunch of people kept doing this for years, and you’ve been friends with so many people all wearing your friend’s body and nobody ever told you. Did he ever notice things were different? Did he ever wonder why his friend kept changing in ways so subtle he couldn’t explain how it felt wrong? Basically what I’m saying is IDW Optimus has been stuck in the world’s most long running horror novel
I enjoy lightheartedly clowning on old Jirt’s notes as much as the next person but at the same time imagine if you were scribbling out some dumb shit to try and desperately make the plotholes in your latest draft work. Literally every writer has done this. Imagine if someone picked that out of the trash and made a book about it. My ghost would pass away
