Not only is it fucking heartwrenching, it also outlines what I think of gods. Whether they exist or not.

“If He commands you to burn children, your Lord is evil.”

Davos is one of my favourite characters because he’s level-headed about things like this. He doesn’t care if you’re the grand controller of the universe, he’ll still judge you by a moral code. If a god commands its followers to burn children (for example), it is evil.

Supreme power does not equal automatic morality. Whether that’s a dictator or a deity.

I’m an atheist, but that doesn’t mean I can’t share Steven Fry’s sentiment when he says that “the god that created this universe, if it was created by a god, is quite clearly a maniac.”

It’s why I have such a problem with the concept of worshiping a god simply because it exists. I don’t give a single shit if it’s the creator of all things, if it can’t give a single solid reason for bone cancer in children (for example), I will not worship it. “Bone cancer in children? How dare you?” (Steven Fry again)
