January 12, Sunday, Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHILVOLCS) raised Taal Volcano’s alert status to level 4 due to its first phreatic eruption since 1977. The Taal Volcano is situated 37 miles south of the capital Manila City. It is one of the country’s most active volcanoes. That night, Taal Volcano ashfall reached Calabarzon and Metro Manila. Some areas near Taal Volcano suffered power outages due to ashfall, lava, mud and rocks. People were forced to evacuate as Batangas declares state of calamity in January 13. While thousands of people are evacuated from the area and are receiving help from different organizations, there are still some places that haven’t received any help yet because of the cracked roads formed by the volcanic earthquakes. Until now, their return to safety in their homes is indefinite. AFJC is planning to send relief to the areas where little to no help has been sent, to share God’s love and gospel to the people in need. We are calling for donations.
