Paul Sharits - Epileptic Seizure Comparison
I composed an hourlong lecture on Sharits’ use of painted individual film cells and ‘flicker photography’ at the end of my undergraduate studies. One of the most fascinating experiments the artist attempted was to create a chamber in which the epileptic experience could be audiovisually recreated using specially calibrated sound, images, and flicker techniques. When combined in a specifically constructed space, the viewer would be made to feel as though they were really experiencing these symptoms.
It would be amazing to see something like this recreated in Toronto.
