Repost from my conservation brother @dreamreefcinema // We recently had a big WIN FOR SHARKS in our local area!!! Woo hoo!!! The #VeniceFlorida City Council voted to #BanSharkFishing from the pier after nearly 50 years of anglers brutalizing these beautiful creatures from this iconic dock. The big push came from the new FWC land based shark fishing regulations and Venice Mayor John Holic’s sensitivity to the issue. All of the credit goes to a small group of local #sharkconservationists who showed up to the meetings and spoke on behalf of the sharks in order to put an end to the heinous acts that were being carried out on this pier for many many years. We were lucky enough to film some of their speeches to the city council and we will be featuring some clips in our feature documentary @fightingforsunshinefilm Much love and respect to our friends Samantha Gentrup from @handsalongthewater Amber Platowski from @shark_stewards_southeast & @jim_abernethy (for being a pit bull and hammering the FWC for stricter land based regulations) #savesharks #landbasedsharkfishing #venicebeachfl #venicepier #sharkysonthepier #nomoresharkblood #teamdreamreef #sharkstewards #handsalongthewater #oceanwarriors #apexpredators #finfree #nofinfl #floridasharks #hammerheads #blacktip #bullsharks #wewon (at Venice Beach Pier) https://www.instagram.com/p/B26ldNmhbZ9/?igshid=8f4c83hdgvur
