#Repost @zachbushmd (@get_repost) ・・・ The FDA just committed our kids to a sick future. 100,000 schools/institutions serve school lunches to 29.8 million students each day. What exists on those plates is toxic, processed, full of chemicals and it’s getting worse. The USDA is proposing to reduce the rules for school lunch and breakfast that promote nutrient-dense fruits and vegetables. Under the proposed revision: - A processed vegetable-based pasta could be considered a vegetable. - A hash brown could replace fresh fruit. - Slices of pizza could replace a balanced meal. If the answer to feeding our children is fried and ultra-processed foods, it shows how out of touch we are with the truth that food is the source of healing and instead what we serve kids is the source of disease. 46% of kids today have a chronic disease by the age of 18 and we have the opportunity to shift this paradigm. The sixty-day public comment period is currently open on this new proposed change to the National School Lunch Program (NSLP).
